So, after three days in NaNoWriMo boot camp I’ve got – drumroll here – 1,010 words of my story written. This is me right now:
I know, I know. I’ve had several knowledgeable and incredibly helpful people tell me to not to focus on the word count, but that’s tougher than it seems, at least for my OCD brain. Still, though, I take comfort in that I have 1,010 more words than I did last Friday night!
Do not fret. 10 words is an achievement. NanoWriMo aside, I try and do at least 1000 words a day I average about 2-3k a day but sometimes I just manage 500. Today I have had a rubbish writing day as far as the novel goes.

Thank you. I really am trying to reign in my OCD demons. But good grief! You average 2-3k a day? That is impressive!

Only sometimes, in a good week. Last week was 6k by friday. And as for today, tomorrow will be considered a do over.

Thanks Jeanne 🙂 I know one thing that may be slowing me down is that I’m handwriting this since I don’t have a pc. But the alternative would be doing it on my Kindle which would be a nightmare 😦

I tend to write stuff out by hand when I’m not at home, like when I’m on lunch break at work, then type it up late. I have about a chapter or two like that – sketched out – in my notebook just waiting for me to get around to typing them up and fleshing them out.

This is the problem with forums and writing buddies. I make it a point to keep my focus on my novel and goals. Sometimes it fun to see what others are up to but not at the cost of slowing our momentum.
If you understood the premise of Nano you’d be so proud of what you have already accomplished! You’ve started a book! You’ve sat down and wrote! Who cares if it’s 10 words or 100! Celebrate each success, my dear, because that’s what makes creativity flourish.
Yeah You!

1010 words is good! It’s a start, isn’t it? 🙂 Just keep on writing and don’t look too much at the word count (I know it’s hard haha).

So far ever even I’ve managed to write just 1000 words! lol! Don’t worry dear, writing can’ be made a duty. Maybe till the juices in your mind are stuck in a bottle…. just wait and take a break I’m sure you’ll be writing thousands of words a day once you open up those bottles and let the writing juices flow! 🙂
Take care dear and all the very best 🙂
