Tomorrow, Stephen King will be awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Barack Obama. This is the highest honor the U.S. can bestow on an artist and is reserved for people who deserve “special recognition by reason of their outstanding contributions to the excellence, growth, support and availability of the arts in the United States.” I myself have been a disciple of King’s since I first read Carrie when I was 14 years old. While many critics decry his writing style I don’t think anyone can deny this prolific writer has made a huge impact with generations of readers. In honor of the “Master of Horror”  I’d like to share a some memorable quotes by him. There are so many to choose from, but here are a few of my favorites.

“Writing isn’t about making money, getting famous, getting dates, getting laid, or making friends. In the end, it’s about enriching the lives of those who will read your work, and enriching your own life as well.”

“High school isn’t a very important place. When you’re going you think it’s a big deal, but when it’s over nobody really thinks it was great unless they’re beered up.”
