Thursday September 1st, marks 37 years since the 1979 publication of The Neverending Story, Michael Ende’s magical tale that delighted and enthralled readers all over the world. From that book, came the 1984 cult classic movie, and the infectious theme song by Limahl, that once, you heard it you couldn’t get it out of your head. And today Google has given its fans a treat by illustrating each chapter from the book, starting with young Bastian Balthazar Bux’s discovery of a shabby old book called The Neverending Story,
which sends him on a magical journey through an alternate fantasy universe.
Google fittingly writes:
“Every once in a blue moon a book captures the imagination, providing a portal into magical places unknown. So it was with The Neverending Story.”
Both the book and the movie are beautifully done, so if you haven’t read/seen them, please treat yourself! And if you’re fan like me, what better time is this, than to revisit some old friends?

I read the book at 14 year’s old right when it came out, and fell instantly in love. I saw the movie as soon as it was released and thought they did a decent job capturing the original story, but as is almost always the case, nothing beats the book!🙋🏻

Hey, who doesn’t love The Neverending Story? Great movie from my childhood too. I bought the DVD for my son when he was about 7-years-old and he loved it.

I LOVE this movie! I don’t even know how many times I have watched it since I was a kid and I can’t wait for my children to be able to watch it someday. I’ve been wanting to read the book, but it isn’t on Kindle yet *sobs*. I always click the link on the Amazon page that states “I’d like to read this book on Kindle” and I’ve been doing that for years lol. I hope someday it’ll be released for Kindle. Fingers crossed!

YAY, thank YOU!!! I just looked at the date, for when I added it to my Amazon Wish List that is titled ‘NOT On Kindle Yet’, 😉 and I added it back on 3/06/2012. LOL! I’ve also been waiting for Betty Crocker’s Cooky Book to be released on Kindle since 2012 too. Sigh. It may be time to give up. 🙂

My sisters and I loved the book and the movie(s). It’s fun to pass those along to the next generation – and an excuse to fall in love with them all over again.

I remember seeing the movie in grade school and being absolutely horrified by the sphinxes. The scene that especially sticks out for me is when Atreyu is walking past and the helmet of the knight who was killed opens. I don’t even remember what was there, but I had nightmares for days lol. I’m a bit of a wuss puss :p
Regardless, I loved the movie and read the book not long after. I was surprised that the book actually encompassed both movies (and did the second one much better in my opinion). The Neverending Story has been on my to reread list for a while now. I’d love to find the copy that I read long ago with the fancy first letter illustration. I’m sure you noticed that each chapter was in alphabetical order. I should just find a copy like that on Amazon. It would be worth the money!
I also loved the auryn symbol and how it was like the ubiquitous ouroboros symbol doubled!

If I remember correctly, I think that might be the edition I had. Hmm. Definitely worth taking a look on Amazon.😊

i think it’s like the first edition so it’s bit pricey, but well worth the cost if you can swing it!
