As the U.S. heads into the home stretch of the ugliest, most divisive presidential elections in recent memory, I think this amazing quote needs to be shared.
Words are things. You must be careful, careful about calling people out of their names, using racial perjoratives and sexual perjoratives and all that ignorance. Don’t do that. Someday we’ll be able to measure the power of words. I think they are things. They get on the walls. They get in your wallpaper They get in your rugs, in your upholstery, and your clothes, and finally in to you.
~ Dr. Maya Angelou ~
Such deep wisdom in that quote.

I think she would have been appalled at the careless use of language in the election.

She was such a class act, I completely agree!

I believe it. Free speech doesn’t give anyone a right to tear other people down.

It really doesn’t. I think one thing this election has taught us is that no one seems to have any respect for other people.😔

I cannot understand people who insist “they’re only words.” Words are ideas and ideas are what change the world. After every conflict regardless of its magnitude if words aren’t exchanged there’s no resolution.
She was such and even posthumously still is such an influential person. I read Caged Bird before I was old enough to understand the full implications of the trauma she suffered, but I did understand the silence that followed.

Words can be the most powerful weapon, or the greatest healing tool. I wish more people realized this. Maya Angelou was such an incredibly gifted woman who also had a beautiful soul. She will always be missed.😕

I just saw a video of her (popped up on my Facebook) where she talks about her assault and how while she was silent afterwards she read every book in the black library and the books she could in the white library. She’s one of my major role models for writing.
It amazes me how many people try to brush off words, but the reason they do is so they can say what they want with impunity. It’s a derailment and diversion tactic.

I absolutely agree Adrienne. Do you have the link to that video?

Let me look for it. It was on Facebook, but I bet I could find it on YouTube! Darn, I can’t find it. If I do, I’ll send it your way!

Thanks Adrienne. Don’t drive yourself crazy searching. I’m just so glad it exists! And did you hear the good news about Comey sending ANOTHER letter to Congress saying they’ve reviewed all the emails and their original assessment stands? Welcome news!

Grrrrr I’m so annoyed about this entire situation. You hear about how the system is rigged, but not how it’s being told, and a certain orange entity is now screaming that when prior he had nothing but praise. I have much stronger reactions than “grrrr,” but I’ll keep this G-PG rated.
See now I really want to find that video! I’m annoyed I cant’ *looks around some more*

The whole thing never should have happened! While I’m not a huge fan of Washington’s predilection for investigative committees, what happened hear really needs to be looked into. Especially after Giuliani’s comments.😡😡😡😡

They are investigating it now as they should. I swear it’s like every day there’s some new bombshell. I just watched the rally in Philadelphia, which is kind of my home town. The crowd was huge!
