I honestly don’t even know what to say.
I could go on and on about the myriad reasons of why the election played out the way it did. I could place blame: the media, the FBI, Washington politians, Clinton herself… But, what’s the point?
In the end, hate won. Bigotry won. Misogyny won. White Nationalism won.
All I can say to the rest of the world is I’m sorry. This election was a perfect storm of events. Please believe that most Americans are better than this.
Hopefully we can all survive the next few years.
For my fellow 58 million Americans who did not vote for Trump I can only offer this:

We’ll muddle through somehow … *sigh* Who’s in for a virtual group hug?

My motto for the next 4 years:
“Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”
I will not let any man tell me what I can or cannot do. No matter what the majority of our country apparently thinks.

If there’s a silver lining I think that this may very well be the end of the two party system. Hugs!

The Democratic Party choose a bad candidate they would have had better shot if they nominated Bernie Sanders.

Having been a Bernie supporter, you’re preaching to the choir. That said, Clinton did not get the credit she deserved for all the positive things she’s accomplished. Now we are faced with a mentally unbalanced president and a Republican congress. Say goodbye to women’s rights, and LGBTQ rights. Say hello to white nationalism and open season on minorities and immigrants.

It’s not that easy to repeal laws in this country also a majority of the laws that effect people directly come from the state and local levels of government not the federal. So come 2018 look at state candidates and your local candidates if you really want to make sure that people have equal rights. The Constitution is set up so each state is independent of the federal government so if the state you live in has a good track record with women’s rights, LGBTQ rights then there is nothing to worry about.

I live in MA so I’m not too worried, at least not yet. Not until he starts using his Executive Power and begins appointing Supreme Cour justices.

The title of this post sums up my thoughts exactly. I have been sick since the numbers started coming in last night, and I feel even more sick today. I can’t believe this happened.

I completely understand how you feel… I’m still in shock. I’ve only cried once when trying to explain this to my son. But other than that, I feel I’ve held myself together. haha!

Well, yesterday I admit I cried a lot. Today I’m just deeply depressed.😔 I can’t imagine how difficult this must have have been to explain to your son.

He’s old enough to understand why it upsets me, but not old enough to understand the impact it could have on so many people. It’s heartbreaking to see our kids raised in a time like this. I hope he proves us all wrong, but I’m not holding my breath.

It’s funny because yesterday morning the first thing I said to my husband was “I’m so glad we don’t have kids.” I too am hoping this won’t be as bad as we think, but…

Since it’s now been three (four?) days afterwards, I’ve had time to process my emotions. I have a mess for days. I had numerous panic attacks (I’m sure there will be more. They seem to sneak up on me when I sleep) and I gave into my depression and despair. Now I’m in the next stage of cynicism with dry wit. I don’t really see a lot of hope for the future at the moment, but I’m trying to be supportive of anyone who’s being harassed or feels unsafe, while of course worrying a bit about my own safety. Thankfully, my job is not a hostile environment (I’m very lucky there), and my husband and I have similar politics. I feel terrible for anyone who has to deal with people gloating and being generally terrible. There’s no excuse to mock anyone’s real and legitimate pain 😦

I’m sorry I’m just replying now Adrienne. For some reason this comment wound up in my spam folder.😕 I’m glad you’re doing better. I was so upset the first couple of days, but at least I don’t have to worry about walking down the street because of the color of my skin, or that I’m wearing a hijab, or I’m holding hands with someone of the same gender.

Don’t worry about it! That seems to be a common complaint on WP lately. I try to check my spam folder once a week or so. I have no idea why that happens.
I have seen some awesome things you can do to show support/solidarity. I was thinking of getting a rainbow pin, because I could both be someone who could show support, but I could also possibly need support. I really detest how the bigots are no emboldened 😡

I hadn’t heard about the rainbow pin, but I know there’s also people wearing safety pins. Josh, over at My Friday blog did a wonderful post on what you can actually do to try to bring about change.💁🏻
