From an outsider’s point of view, I do actually wonder if anything fundamentally changed under the Obama administration. Still, he has to be better than Trump, whatever the answer.
Best wishes, Pete.

He actually accomplished quite a lot Pete. He put into place The Affordable Care Act which allowed millions of previously uninsured people to obtain insurance. Now granted it’s flawed, but there are things that could be done to fix the problems instead of completely getting rid of it which is what Trump and the Republicans are planning on doing. He also finally did what two other presidents before him couldn’t when he got rid of Osama bin Laden. He bailed out the auto industry, and signed the Paris Climate accords. He also put a stop to “enhanced interrogation” which was nothing more than torture. I could go on, but I’m sure your eyes are glazing over by now. He could have accomplished even more if his hands weren’t tied by Republicans. Was he a perfect president? No. But he was one who cared deeply about this country and its citizens and he will be missed by millions, including me.๐

Not glazing over at all, Kim. Nice to read something positive from one of his supporters. Many of the things you mention were considered to be failures by the reporters here, especially ‘Obamacare’. When he visited the UK, he often came over as either patronising, or in the case of the EU vote, threatening. And he sucked up to the Royal family, an institution I am firmly against. Mind you, all his predecessors did just the same.
As for Bin laden, I still wonder if he is really dead! But then, I am an arch conspiracy theorist…
Best wishes as always, Pete.

I understand Pete. As I said, he wasn’t perfect, but then what leader is? I do think he doesn’t get enough credit for the positives, but given his high approval ratings as he leaves office, maybe more people are realizing the good things he did. ๐

Great quote. And even better, I’m feeling so much better now. The virus appears to have finally lifted.

You’re welcome Anthony. I thought this was a good quote to start this week with.๐๐ป

This honestly makes me more sad than inspired considering that all of the news has been bad. It’s like we were granted eight years of brilliant leadership, and while he of course had his flaws (all people do even leaders), you know he had the best interest of everyone at heart. It’s really hard to swallow that we’re going from someone who’s more than qualified and noble (we passed over someone else also more than qualified…) to a person who didn’t even understand the scope of all the president does. I know I’m not the only one who’s attempting to fend off utter despair ;_;

Sorry Adrienne.๐ I don’t think we’ve heard the last from him or Michelle though.๐๐ป

Oh no definitely not. I believe I read somewhere that he was suggested he’d have a LOT to say once he was no longer in office. The presidency (for decent people) means that there are things you just can’t say. I cannot wait to hear Obama “really” speak. I also wouldn’t be surprised if he and Michelle were at the forefront of a resistance movement because while he may no longer have the power of the presidency, he’s still made connections during that time.

It’ll be interesting especially as they’re staying in Washington until Sasha graduates.๐

I’ve been hearing rumors in the last few days that he’s going to be working with like minded democrats to promote progressive change.๐๐ป

That would be awesome! But I wouldn’t blame him if he wanted to take a rest for a while.

True that! We certainly can’t be lazy and cry waiting for others or the environment to make the changes for us.
