I first read Watership Down when I was 11 years old, and Richard Adams immediately became one of my favorite childhood authors up there with C.S. Lewis and Tolkien. He may not have started writing until he was middle-aged, but once he entered the literary world, he shone with the best of them!
My heart has joined the Thousand, for my friend stopped running today.

A great book, with such widespread appeal. At least Mr Adams made it to a ripe old age, unlike so many we lost this year.

I just heard about it the other day. Since it’s a collaboration between Netflix and BBC, I’m cautiously optimistic.😊

Oh! You should definitely treat yourself to Watership Down and the sequel! And if you don’t have time, BBC and Netflix are working on a new film adaptation due out next year.😊

I remember watching the movie as a little girl. Many people report being traumatized by it, but I absolutely loved it. It was far different from any other animated movie of the time, being singularly more realistic even though it technically featured “talking rabbits,” they were speaking their own language, and the animators did an excellent job not making them anthropomorphic.
I read the book as soon as I could find it in my school’s library, and I loved it just as much. I think I read it as least once every year after that, and I was even impressed with the much later sequel Tales from Watership Down. The original was probably my first taste of an allegory, though I didn’t know it at the time. He was a brilliant author 😦

I watched the movie as well and thought it did a good job at capturing the essence of the book. It’ll be interesting how this new adaptation turns out. He really was a phenomenal author, especially when you consider how late he started in life.💁🏻
