Good to see Mad on the case, I didn’t realise it was still going, it’s a long long time since I saw a copy.

I’m so upset with the executive orders that have taken place this past week. This truly isn’t America, I am afraid for what sort of things are yet to come.

Sadly I think this is just the beginning Tiana.

I would agree, it truly is heartbreaking.

I used to read Mad magazine all the time in the 1960s and 70s, KIm.
I am beginning to wonder though. Has America had its day? Has it just done too much, and got too big? Interfered and got involved elsewhere to an unacceptable degree? is this the legacy of too much foreign intervention? You are left with a country consumed with isolationism, and fear of the future.
Maybe that big country has run its course on the world stage, and needs to take time to reflect.
What do you think?
Best wishes, Pete.

Hopefully America hasn’t had its day Pete, because I believe we still have the capability to do a lot of good in the world, but we definitely need to reflect upon what’s brought us to this point. Did you know we had already been downgraded to a “flawed democracy” by the Economist Intelligence Unit in 2016? Their decision was based on the lack of trust in public institutions. In my humble opinion, many people who voted for Trump did so because of this mistrust in these institutions as well as our leaders. Many of our politicians on both sides of the aisle are at best self-serving and at worst, corrupt.Trump supporters see him as the quintessential outsider who is going to “fix” everything, not realizing that in fact he is the very thing we should have been fearing all along. He has no allegiance to anyone except himself and I believe this will become more apparent as his tenure as president goes on. I could ramble on, but I’ll control myself. I’m just going to end by saying that Mr. Trump and his cabinet shouldn’t just be watched closely by those of us here in the U.S. Given the flurry of “executive actions” he’s already taken, I think the global community also need to keep a wary eye on him. I firmly believe that his presidency could quite possibly cause global repercussions that will be catastrophic in nature.

I have to agree that American policies have often resulted in global repercussions. Trump does indeed look as if he intends to take it to the next level though. Maybe he will just go too far, too fast? We can only hope that others will step in and stop him, before it gets that bad.
Best wishes as always, Pete.

Oh don’t worry Lisa. I haven’t forgotten those south of the border. The only reason why I didn’t include them in this, is because this particular “executive action” is one aimed squarely at an entire worldwide religion. I hope that makes sense.💁🏻

Yes I understand. The wall really hits close to home. I’m 45 minutes away from Mexico. My great grandparents came to America from Mexico. They helped build the railroads here. It is SO upsetting! He actually expects for us tax payers and Mexico to pay for it! I say we’re going to war in the near future.

I think I remember you mentioning relatives who immigrated here from Mexico, so I can’t even imagine how angry and frustrated you are. I swear lately all I can do is picture him eating that taco bowl on Cinco de Mayo last year. Honestly, I don’t even see how the “wall” is doable. First there’s the sheer logistical nightmare of it. Then there’s the fact that they’d have to take people’s land by eminent domain. And never mind the cost. What is it up to now? 40 billion? How about working with the Mexican government to fix this? What about fixing the sections of the borders that are falling apart or are non-existent? How about hiring more people for border control? Or here’s a thought! What about streamlining the process to let people in who are desperately trying to escape the violence and drug lords? Sorry for the sarcasm.😡

Thank you! The whole wall thing doesn’t even make sense! Does he actually think people still won’t come over here? Whether to immigrate or sell drugs? He also wants to do away with sanctuary cities. It’s upsetting tax payers have to foot the bill for the wall! He expects Mexico to pay for it but they aren’t going to. I’m sure all tax payers don’t want to pay for it either.

I honestly think there’s something mentally wrong with him Lisa. Marty Walsh, the Mayor of Boston has doubled down on Boston remaining a sanctuary city, and I believe the mayors of New York, Chicago, as well as the one in CA have as well.

I don’t understand what goes through the head of this guy. There’s NO upside to this move. It would ONLY stir things up. I mean… not to say there’s any correlation between the events, but we just had a shooting in a mosque, right here in Québec. Trump is setting records where records are NOT needed.

I couldn’t believe it when I heard about Québéc! I’m have a horrible feeling something similar will happen here before long. They said on the news today that the shooter admires Trump and France’s right-wing Marie le Pen. *Sigh* I fear that this is only the beginning.😞
