Exactly. It’s a measure taken for no other reason than simple mean-spiritedness and malevolence. Yet another reason — to go along with the racism, the antisemitism, the science denial, the corruption and the lying — why the Trump administration should be ashamed of itself, and why it will be pilloried in the dock of history.

It is so sad. I can’t even express my feelings towards such terrible mistake. We are going backwards.

I will never understand why it is so hard for so many people to just treat others with human decency. 😡

I feel the same way. It seems to be a fatal flaw in humanity that we seek to single out people rather than embracing differences.

Dear Kim,
DT is catering to the conservative evangelical voters who are not acting in a Christian way.I wish these folks really valued the gift of life.

It’s sad and embarrassing to take this huge step back. As individuals we can still do our best to provide a safety blanket for whoever needs it (it’s getting to be a big group in Trump’s America) – but these institutional safeties are important too, and their loss is a loss for all of us.

Well said Jay! I have to say I was never more proud of my state of MA and its attorney general Maura Healey who said in a press conference that she will be involved in filing federal litigation to defend the rights of transgender students to use bathrooms that conform with their gender identity.

Although I have concerns about parents ‘encouraging’ very young children ( say 4 or 5) to change gender, I cannot see any sense in this public restroom debate. There is zero evidence that any transgender people have ever molested anyone, and small children of both sexes are often taken into female toilets by their mothers. Just something else to use as a hate issue, for sure.
Bets wishes, Pete.

I agree Pete. I know there are some children who show signs of being transgender at a very early age, and I think they should be supported by their parents in discovering what their true gender identity is.

A sad reality we live in. Some closer to the origin than others. Hopefully this step back only promises a bigger step forward in the near future.
