Chester Bennington who was the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots, Dead By Sunday, and Kings of Chaos, as well as being the frontman for Linkin Park, is the latest devastating loss to the music world. Close friends with the late Chris Cornell, he’s reportedly committed suicide on what would have been Chris’s 53rd birthday. The father of six, battled with drug and alcohol abuse. I’m completely heartbroken over the death of this incredibly influential and gifted musician, and I really can’t come up with anymore words right now, so I’m going to leave you with some inspiring words from Chester Bennington himself.
You can’t be afraid of people willing to hurt you, cause if you fear life, then you will never live.
It’s incredibly difficult to be in the spotlight – a very nice tribute

Thank John. I just read an article on Rolling Stone’s website that said he was also molested and beaten up as a child by a close friend, which makes this even more horrible.

That’s really awful – I think over the next week we’ll hear more about the demons he was battling – they always say drugs & alcohol but those usually are masking something deeper as you point out…so sad

I had a LP playlist up and nearly sobbed a bit myself. His passing was just so completely unexpected. I know if I pulled up the videos I would lose it.

Don’t make the same mistake I did. Between watching Linkin Park videos, to Chester and Chris singing Hunger Strike together, to Chris singing Crawl with Chester and Linkin Park, and finishing with One Light, which they dedicated to Chris at a 5/19 concert on Jimmy Kimmel, I’m completely wrecked.

God, it’s like I’m watching my childhood die bit by bit as the years are moving by.
I just can’t believe this. What a loss! I hope he rests in peace!

I’m utterly devastated, such a talented man. His music has helped so many but nobody was there to help him it’s utterly heartbreaking. I saw Linkin Park a few times and I saw him fronting Stone Temple Pilots and he had so much presence. I feel so much for his family and especially his children who will feel the loss forever.

I honestly just feel completely gutted. His music just had a way of reaching into your soul, if that doesn’t sound too corny. I just can’t imagine what his family is going through right now.

I heard about this yesterday evening just before I went to sleep. Needless to say I didn’t sleep very wel 😔 Really sad to hear about this. Linkin Park was so amazing. As one of the comments said above, it will never be the same again when you listen to them. Truly devestating news 😢

I was listening and watching their videos yesterday afternoon and evening, so I can emphasize with you about the lack of sleep. Linkin Park won’t be the same, and neither will the Music world.😢

I have heard of Linkin Park, but never knew his name, to be honest. The music world has always been full of such tragedies, and you gave him a nice tribute.
Best wishes, Pete.

Thank you Pete. I’ve been a huge fan of his since the 90s, and this came as a terrible shock. He was not only a gifted musician, but a genuinely nice man who unfortunately never got over the trauma of his childhood. 😢

I miss him so much. Thank you for this post. His music helped me wayyyy back in high school. 2000 was 10th grade for me. LP helped form my foundation for rock music.

I was in my 35 when Hybrid Theory came out, and after listening to the lyrics and Chester’s raw emotion as he sang, I became an instant fan. He will definitely be missed.😞

Are we blind when it comes to seeing that our personal level of pain or depression or heartache is over the top, that we need help? It is possible that these tragic examples of well-known people committing suicide are just part of the usual percentage. Yet, perhaps their gift to us, in addition to the creative work they leave behind can be greater vigilance on behalf of ourselves and those we love. And second, to forgive them when they simply have to go. As another comment remarked, there will be a next time around, which I hope is filled with joy.

He had the most incredible voice and such a fun nature. It breaks my heart that these seemingly “happy” people face the biggest silent battles. He was a truly gifted musician and one of the leading voices of my generation’s teen years. I don’t often get hyped up with celebrity deaths, but this one hit hard.

Depression is such a complex disease. I had a colleague whose husband, committed suicide after fighting depression all his life. He honestly felt his family and friends would be better off without him.😞
