We are taught to understand, correctly, that courage is not the absence of fear, but the capacity for action despite our fears.
~ John McCain ~
If you live in the United States, you’ve probably already heard that Senator John McCain has been diagnosed with one of the most virulent forms of brain cancer. When you hear Senator McCain’s name, two words usually come to mind: Hero and Patriot. While I oftentimes disagree with his politics, Senator McCain is someone I’ve always respected and admired. He’s a man who on numerous occasions has shown his willingness to put country before party. Having survived five years of captivity and torture at the hands of the North Vietnamese, if anyone can beat this, it’s this Maverick of the Senate. While Washington and our country remains divided, I think one thing we can all agree on, is sending our thoughts, prayers, and best wishes to Senator McCain and his family.
I heard about this earlier, and also that he is now 80 years old.Time to spend his last remaining days with his family, I reckon. He’s had a good career, and was always highly respected.
Best wishes, Pete.

From his tweets this morning, I don’t think he’ll be retiring from the Senate anytime soon Pete!💁🏻

I’m sorry to hear the sad news, he fought for his Country in both the military and politics and he’ll always have our respect for that.

He is most certainly a man of honour and courage. Like you, I often disagree with him politically, but have tremendous respect for him and believe he is one of the few left in Washington who puts the needs of the people first.

Horrible thing to be diagnosed with. I do not wish such a thing on anyone. 😦

My father died from the same type of brain tumor back in 1982, but there were no treatment options then. McCain is heading back to Arizona on Monday to begin his chemo, etc. He’s a tough cookie. If anyone can survive this it would be him.

He HAS been a hero in the past, but little problems like:
Keating 5
McCain-Feingold
Gang of 14
HRC ” my favorite democrat”
Killing ACA repeal
Falsely accusing Judge Moore out of spite after falsely accusing President Trump out of spite w/ fake dossier eem to tarnish his past heroism.

While McCain isn’t perfect, he has made no false accusations against Mr. Trump or Mr. Moore. I thought he showed tremendous courage in standing against a healthcare bill that would have stripped coverage from millions of Americans.

The dossier is phony and he was the first Republican to accuse the President of participating in “golden showrrs” w/ Russian call girls.
Sounds like he is familiar with scorched earth smears.
He is also transparently angered, like Romney, that Trump is President and not him. He’s takin his ball and going home a bit.

I have to respectfully disagree. Not everything about the dossier has been disproven, at least not yet. The Gang of Fourteen was a rare instance of bipartisanship. I wish we’d see more of that. And again I have to say that with the healthcare bill he put country before party. Something I wish more Representatives and Senators would do!

I get your point, but within the R camp, McCain has broken trust with his base that wants the govt to do less, take less, and stay in their Constitutionally defined box. The govt, IMO, should not be in the health business simply because A. They dont know the business. And B. Its not their business.
Their job is to make law, execute law, and be just.

I understand. As you may have guessed I’m not a Republican, although as an Independent, I have voted for a few Republicans in the past. I’m interested in your ideas about healthcare. Do you have a better system in mind? Obviously, right now, what we have isn’t working. I actually think the ACA has some good qualities to it but I’d love to see Democrats and Republicans come together and fix the weaknesses.
As far as the government being just goes, call me cynical, but those days are gone. We have two political parties who except for a few brave souls, care less about their constituents and more about knifing each other in the back. And we have a racist, homophobic and misogynistic president who is so hell bent on undoing Obama’s legacy, that he doesn’t care if his actions are causing people harm. To sum things up, right now I’m pretty fed up with the lot.

Agreed. All Americans, especially those in Washington, the unelected branches if govt, should be equal to us under the law. I know there are filthy on both sides. I want all unjust to face the music. We could never live with dizens if felony charges, yet major players survive crimes that are unthinkable. Do you know the deoths of dirt on McCain just in Keating 5? The fact that he ever was allowed to hold office after that crime is unthinkable. Yet, with the help of establishment, he has been a career guy. Sorta breaks my brain. Thanks for dialogue!

While we’re not completely on the same side of the political spectrum, it’s nice to know we agree on some things.😊
