As many of you already know, after decimating several Caribbean islands, and killing at least 21 people, the monster known as Irma is about to descend upon the Keys as a Category 5 and then Miami and Southern Florida as a Category 4, before moving up the rest of the state. For any of our fellow bloggers and their families who are in the path of this incredibly destructive storm and haven’t or are unable to evacuate, please know my thoughts and prayers are with you.
Looks like something from a science fiction film.
Scary indeed.
Best wishes, Pete.

It really does Pete! And the pictures from Caribbean islands like St. Martin’s, Antigua, Barbuda are devastating!

I made it safely out of the state. I’m at my parent house in Maryland.

I don’t “like” hurricanes rolling in, but I do like people like you who show compassion and are praying for those affected! God bless you and help each person who gets rained out of work to those who get a tree on their house. The effects are so widespread and varied.

I always feel so helpless in situations like this because I want to assist in any way I can, but for the most part am unable to. I’m praying that overnight some kind of divine intervention turns it out to sea, but I don’t think that’s going to happen l😔

I’m really glad that this kind of weather can’t happen here, but it’s so incredibly scary if you live in an area and this appears. It’s very kind of you to do a post like this. I hope everyone will get out safe, and there won’t be any more casualties.

Thanks Michel. I know there are many who haven’t evacuated for a myriad of reasons, so I hope they stay safe.

It really is. Especially when you see the devastation it’s caused on the islands.😞

This is a very scary picture! I’m not sure still what I’m doing for evacuation depends on the next 24 hours! Hope everyone is safe!

Right?! Pete said it looks like something out of a science fiction movie. According to the latest forecast, South Carolina might be in the clear because after tearing through Florida it looks like it’s going to continue inland into Georgia and eventually Tennessee. But then again, look at the last minute changes Katrina made before slamming into Louisiana and Mississippi. Computer models definitely have their uses, but Mother Nature is full of surprises.

I live in a mobile home so I am scared about those surprises! I did notice the recent forecast and hope it doesn’t cause damage to SC and other states too. This is the scariest storm we’ve seen. Gosh I pray it doesn’t switch up because SC barely has any gas left!

Poor mobile homes always seem to get the worst of it. 😒
It’s odd that two major hurricanes have formed and caused such widespread destruction so early in the season. I was watching CNN earlier and they were doing a segment on an Urban Response Team that just returned home to Orlando after being deployed to Texas to assist in rescuing victims of the floods. Talk about no rest for the weary!

I think its very odd too. I mean how convienent and all these people are focusing on the natural tragedies it makes me scared what kind of government stuff might be going on behind closed doors. I don’t want to sound like a paranoid wacko just don’t trust our government currently. Oh and I wasn’t trying to come off as hitting on you in my other compliments lol. All respect to ur awesome hubby lol.

Scientists have already come out and said that while Irma and Harvey had many conditions that fueled them, climate change is definitely partially responsible. So what a great idea it was for us to pull out of the Paris Climate Accords. Grr.😒

These storms just seem to keep getting worse and worse and coming in more and more. It’s truly a scary thing and feel for all those on the islands. I’ve been to St. Martin a couple of times and believe me none of the buildings or homes look very sturdy for the natives. With any of the islands down there really there’s always the nicer touristry areas but for the most part it’s pretty run down so I can’t imagine storms like this hitting any of them. 😦

I’ve heard that about the islands. It’s a shame that with all the tourist money coming in the people who work so hard every day to make the islands paradise, don’t seem to reap any benefits.😞

It’s scary thinking of them with no where to go either. Not like they can drive anywhere to get away from these storms hitting them. At least those in FL do have that option….and for the most part a lot sturdier buildings if they stay. I couldn’t imagine riding this out down in the keys though, Key West is just so small I would have been on the highway out days ago.

I said the same thing to my husband. They were showing people from Barbuda being evacuated by boats and barges ahead of Jose.
There was another segment showing people on the Keys refusing to leave their boats. I understand that they’re fisherman who rely on their boats to make a living, but honestly? When there’s a Category 5 hurricane bearing down on you, do you really think there’s going to be anything you can do except go down with your ship? I swear, I wanted to reach through the tv screen and grab them by the shoulders and say this is not worth losing your life over!😡

There are always those that will absolutely refuse to leave and that just confuses me. Maybe if you had yourself an underground bunker you can ride out a storm but one this size should be taken seriously. Of course it doesn’t help to turn on the TV and see the long lines up I95 either looking like a parking lot.
I was watching the web cam in Key West yesterday though and Duval St. looked pretty deserted so hopefully a lot had left. If they hadn’t maybe they need to see the storm that was filmed on the cam in St. Martin right before the cam was destroyed by the storm. That was some scary scary stuff. 😦

I’ve never understood it either Carrie. Hopefully the majority of people have left.

Since i mentioned it I opened up the cams down there…. pretty much a ghost town. Granted it’s late but Duval St. in Key West is pretty equal to say Bourbon St. in New Orleans… packed all night long and there’s no one there tonight, that’s definitely a good sign.

For some weird reason comments disappear on me this morning, so this is now the second time I am writing this. I luckily live in a country where storms like this don’t occur. But I think it is very to experience something like this. I truly hope no one else gets hurt, and think it’s very kind of you to write a post like this 😀

I have a problem posting comments today. Everywhere I post a comment it doesn’t appear. But I’m giving it one mlre try. Living in a country where we don’t experience storms like these I can only imagine how scary this can be. I think it’s great that you have made a post like this and I hope that everyone will be safe 😀

Hi Michel!
I just found three of your comments and I’m breaking them out of spam jail. The U.S. Does get hit by the occasional hurricane or tropical storm, but to get hit by two such catastrophic storms in two weeks is unheard of!

I hope the animals and the (declining, due to unchecked development) Florida wildlife weather the storm and that people’s pets can be safely and speedily rescued in the aftermath. Poor animal friends.

I saw a lot of pets on the news being accepted into shelters, and there’s more than one animal organization who have been evacuating fur babies.

Dear Kim,
Thanks for your best wishes. I live in Central Tampa on the West coast of Florida and Horty of Dr Rex’d blog, “It Is What It Is,.” lives on the east coast. Folks are hunkering down. The stores are closing around noon. Pretty much, we who have gone through this before are well prepared.
Right around now, ti feels like that calmness before the storm hits.
Hugs, Gronda

It’s incredible to think that this thing is so big that it will encompass both coasts. I know Florida is narrow, but still… I’m glad you’re well, stocked. I’ll be thinking of you and Horty!
