There is something seriously wrong when an 11-year-old is kicked out of the Cub Scouts simply for completing an assignment. No matter what your opinion is on gun control, all of us should be outraged at the treatment of young Ames. Thank you for sharing this Gronda!
AMES MAYFIELD
A precocious 11 year old Cub Scout, Ames Mayfield dared to ask his Colorado State Senator Vickie Marble, some tough but pertinent questions. He is involved in his school politics because this has become a passion for him. He did an outstanding job but the questions were critical. As a consequence, he was kicked out of his cub scout den.
Here is the rest of the story…
On October 20, 2017, Samantha Schmidt of the Washington Post penned the following report, “A Cub Scout pressed a lawmaker about gun control. Then his den kicked him out, his mother said.”
Excerpts:
“When Ames Mayfield’s Cub Scout den met with a Colorado state senator last week, the 11-year-old came prepared with a long list of typed-up questions. He excitedly raised his hand to ask his first one.”
“Ames pressed the Republican state senator, Vicki Marble, on an issue he…

That’s a pretty shameful story, but in my experience, the scouts have long been an ‘establishment’ organisation, so it is no surprise that the young boy was made to leave.
Best wishes, Pete.

I have never been fond of the Boy Scouts Pete. They’ve shown themselves to be bigoted numerous times, but this is just so despicable. For God’s sake! He’s 11 years old and he did exactly what he was told to do. He prepared well thought out questions and presented them politely. I mean, the message that this sends! And irony of ironies, because their enrollment is down they just announced they’re doing girls everywhere a huge favor and letting them join starting next year. I personally think after this they should be boycotted out of existence! Sorry for the rant. I’m really upset about this. I’m going to have a busy morning tomorrow on the phone.😒

Man..I at first thought this was some kind of joke or something, but this is for real. What a crazy and sad story. Unbelievable that this can somehow be allowed to happen. I’m a pretty peaceloving guy but stories like these make me seriously mad. Wow, add to that, that’s it monday morning when I am reading this and that means I’m in a fury right now. Seriously what a crazy world we live in sometimes.

The Boy Scouts are an outdated organization that have faced a myriad of scandals throughout the years. Their “sweep it under the rug” mentality is sickening.

I absolutely agree. And they think allowing girls will boost their enrollment numbers. Absolutely clueless!

At the very least, the entire leadership needs to be replaced.

This story really is tragic. I get so incensed when these anti-gun touting liberals use every incident in America which involves a gun, to start screaming for tougher gun control laws.
Especially when, if you really look at these incidents where mentally unstable people went off the deep end and gunned down a dozen or more people, most of them obtained their guns legally. I honestly don’t remember the last time something crazy like this happened with illegally obtained firearms.
While only a fool would not sympathize with the families of the fallen victims of these heinous acts of violence, using them as a platform to promote a call for gun control is just patently absurd. Let me just ask you this…are the deaths of innocent people at the hands of drunk drivers any less tragic than the deaths of the innocent people in Las Vegas? Why then do we not call for the immediate ban and restriction on the sale of motor vehicles throughout the US? After all, those drunks couldn’t have killed anybody without the car. Of course, that is absurd. It’s just as absurd as calling for gun control because disturbed people use them to kill. If they didn’t have the gun, don’t you think they would google themselves a recipe for making pipe bombs? Car bombs? Do you really think for a minute that if there weren’t even a single gun available illegally that these people would not still kill indiscriminately? Of course they would. That’s why this argument is foolish. We as Americans should seek instead to promote better treatment for people who exhibit symptoms of mental illness and overt irrationality.
Great post!

Hi Dorian,
Thanks for reading and commenting. While I don’t believe an outright ban is practical, I do believe there should be room for compromise. I have to be honest and say I’m not a fan of gun show loopholes, nor the fact how easy it is for just about anyone to get weapons of mass destruction like the AR-15. I completely agree with you though how mental illness is severely neglected in this country. There are too many people who desperately need help yet are falling through the cracks.

Hi and thanks for the reply. I do agree with that position also, however I don’t think those gunshow loophole people are the ones who do the real crazy stuff with the guns they purchase. From my studies of the mass killing incidents, its almost always some whack job that has been displaying hostile tendencies for years, has documented emotional issues, and gets set off by some traumatic emotional crisis like a g/f leaving him, or his parents rejecting him etc. I think it’s also really beneficial to note that I don’t recall EVER seeing a female mass killer here in the US. We have female serial killers, we have female sex abusers and molesters, we even have women who kill their own kids and wipe out their entire families, but I don’t recall ever hearing of a woman carrying out a domestic act of terrorism. I don’t know why, but I certainly think that little statistical anomaly should prompt diligent and immediate research since we know its not because all women are peace loving, or sane. So why wouldn’t women be apt to kill large amounts of strangers but have no qualms about killing their husbands (not always abusers), boiling their children on the stove, drugging them with either and suffocating them – then burying them down the street and going to a party, or drowning them in the family car? Just a weird anomaly I’ve begun researching in my spare time. I love the blog, I look forward to reading more of your stuff. You can also feel free to check out mine for more argumentative topics on politics as well as basic non-inflammatory content about reading and writing. Hope to chat again soon!

Interesting point you’ve raised about why there haven’t been any female mass murderers in the US. I’d love to know what you discover.
And thank you for your kind words. I mainly do book reviews, but I do occasionally wade into politics. I have to warn you though, I’m definitely NOT a fan of Mr. Trump!
