This year’s Time Magazine’s Person of the Year is more than one individual. It’s an entire movement. Naming them the “Silence Breakers”, this honors the legions of women and men who have bravely shared their stories of sexual assault, harassment and rape. This movement is a reckoning that’s been a long time coming, and it’s the perfect counterpunch to the misogynist who currently occupies the White House. However, as the Senate race in Alabama is showing us, there is more that needs to be done. There is a very real likelihood that Republican candidate Roy Moore, who has several credible allegations against him concerning sexual assault and inappropriate relationships with teenage girls, may very well win. And once he’s in the Senate, it’s unlikely that the Republican leadership will do anything to hold him accountable. Our Misogynist-In-Chief has yet to face his own day of reckoning, despite the Access Hollywood Tape (which he is now reportedly denying that it’s his voice), and several woman who have publicly come forward to bravely share their stories. And while the #metoo movement has definitely ushered in a cultural shift, there are countless others who find themselves unable to go public who need our support. This is just the beginning. We still have a long road ahead in not only addressing past grievances, but also in making sure that in the future people are immediately held accountable for their actions. But today, is a good day.

Good choice by the magazine. I don’t know if it is still as influential as it once was, but this cannot help but focus more attention on this topic.
Best wishes, Pete.

Newspapers and magazines have definitely lost readership in recent years, but the annual Time Magazine Person of the Year issue is still very popular. This was the perfect choice this year.

Yeah. They actually got it right this year, although it’s too bad they named Mr. Trump as runner-up.

That was my first thought actually, thankfully they didn’t go with it. After the Blake Shelton sexiest man I was expecting the worse though. LOL

I used to like him on The Voice, but after that People Issue I found up that so many people were upset because he’s sent out racist and homophobic tweets.😒

I’ve never really cared for him much myself. He has some songs that are tolerable, and I’ll admit he and Adam can be funny but I quit watching The Voice long ago because it seemed they always sent home everyone I liked. LOL The only thing I’d ever seen myself out of him though that turned me off was acting like a drunken idiot on social media… just no.

The only thing I really knew about him was from the funny bickering between him and Adam. I don’t listen to much in the way of country music so I wasn’t really familiar with his music. After reading some of his past tweets though all I can say is what was People Magazine thinking?

Even if you put aside anything personal I just don’t get the sexy with him at all anyway but then that might be because I did always find him somewhat of a jerk. LOL

A far better choice than Blake Shelton and Trumplestiltskin.

I remember seeing this magazine all the time as a kid but never really understood its scale or importance till recently. Great cover and hopefully it’ll have a snowball effect and help out the cause.

Dear Kim,
What a great post. I was thrilled with this selection by Time magazine as it is a stark contrast to last year’s person of the year of whom I will not deem to mention his name.
Hugs, Gronda

Thank you Gronda. My only disappointment was that “he” was chosen as runner-up, instead of someone more worthy, say Colin Kaepernick, but it’s still a victory nonetheless.

Kim, your post is wonderful and I’m so happy that Time Magazine selected to highlight this necessary movement led by strong women. I don’t believe this will make a lot of difference in government decisions, but it definitely voices out some of society’s wrongful actions. Keep going with the great posts!

Thanks Robbie. I wish they hadn’t named Mr. Trump runner-up, but it’s a start.
