Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four Privet Drive, were proud to say they were perfectly normal, thank you very much. They were the last people you’d expect to be involved in anything strange or mysterious, because they just didn’t hold with such nonsense.
J. K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
Ugh! Two of the most loathsome fictional characters ever written. I love the Potter stories and hated how Harry was treated by them.

The only one I hated more besides Voldemort and Bellatrix, was Umbridge. She almost wrecked my love for pink and cuddly kittens.😡

I hear you! Umbridge was horrendous. In reality people like her are the real monsters.

Never read a HP book, or seen the films. But Richard Griffiths was a great actor, and had many good roles. A sad loss when he died in 2013, but not really a surprise, given his build.
Best wishes, Pete.

I was re-reading Potter around Christmas-time and I forgot that Vernon and Petunia got Harry a Christmas present during his first year at Hogwarts!
A fifty pence piece!! 😀

I suppose that was better than Vernon’s dirty sock he received on another occasion.😡

Kim thank you as you reminded me how much I love JK’s writing! Happy Wednesday!

Haha, great post. What a loathsome pair. With a brat of a son. I kept wishing Hogwarts would offer permanent boarding for Harry, but life is never that simple.

Thanks Lorraine. At least Dudley redeemed himself a bit in the last book.😊

I haven’t read the last two… yet. They’re in my room waiting patiently until I get around to them.

Please don’t hate me……but I have never read the Harry Potter books, and I have only seen the first four films. Just not a big fan…..(* hides under the bed in total fear of reaction * 😱😱😱😱)

Oh Michel. I forgive you. As much as I love Harry Potter, I know the books aren’t for everyone. You can come out now.🤗

Great choice! I love that opening. Vernon and Petunia may have been horrible to Harry, but I also found them rather fun characters at the same time.

Thanks Jeanne. They were fun. And I don’t think Harry would have turned out as he did without having been raised by them horrible as they were.😊

Oh, yes, Harry Potter. It’s been a while since I’ve read the books, but Ms. Rowling is a wonderful writer. I liked the movies too, but I prefer the books.

I agree…There have been some good movies based on books, but it can be a challenge to make a book into a two hour or so movie.

What odious people they were. Total jokes as guardians for Harry.
