Hi Everyone. I just wanted to tell all of you who I’m friends with on Goodreads, that I’ve had to open a new account. It seems as though this past Sunday, my account was mysteriously deleted. After haggling with GR customer support for the last three days, I’ve been told the account cannot be retrieved. So, after four years, I’m starting all over again. Aww Kim…😢😢 That is just horrible news. I’m so sorry. I totally can’t understand how something like that could just simply disappear. With all the books that you have read and to have this completely vanish is just truly horrible. I’m even more amazed to hear that they can’t even retrieve it. I’m sending you a friends request right now.
I’m also using this comment as a test to see if they come through. I hope I am not having the same problem as Vinnieh now that comments from me don’t appear in the reader (I’m saying this because I left a comment on an earlier post from you today, and over on Dani’s blog I also left quite a few comments but no responses yet). So…keeping my fingers crossed here. But…as I said this really is horrid news. So sorry Kim.

Sigh. Hundreds of books and friend went poof Michel. And what really ticks me off is that GR doesn’t send you a warning email or anything.🤬
I’m so sorry I missed your comment this morning. I’ve been going back and forth with GR and I missed a bunch of them. And I know Dani has some stuff going on, so she might not be online. Thank you for the friend request. I’m going to check right now.🤗

I feel awful for you Kim. I haven’t been on Goodreads for very long, and am also not as active as you or Dani on it. But I definitely can imagine how devastating something like that can be. (I would be very sad too if that were to happen, even though I have not even a very large list of books there). But it really is weird that GR doesn’t even know how to recover it. With all those tech guys….it truly baffles me.
Really no need to apologise Kim. As I said it’s me, so really sorry 😢😢) As you and Dani did both not reply I was afraid that I had said something wrong. But yeah, I know…Dani again has some things going on, I read her post earlier this morning 😢 I feel so sorry for her. I wish that there was something I could do for her. She never seems to get a break. She is truly one of the kindest and warmhearted persons that I have ever known, and that’s why I wonder why these things keep happening to her. I hope she will be okay 😢

I really am not happy with them Michel. All I can say is make sure your password is as secure as possible.
And, as if you could say anything wrong! So silly. I’m really worried about Dani as well. I feel like I haven’t been there enough for her lately but between my health and other life stuff going on, I’m barely treading water.

I understand. It really is ridiculous. I don’t understand how an entire account can just vanish into thin air. They must have some kind of back up systems. Whatever the case, I’m just very sad this happened.
I know…but yeah..I just have these seriously annoying insecurity issues. It’s something I just keep struggling with.
Aww Kim, please don’t say that. Dani loves you, you know that. She always thinks the world of you, and calls you her booksister. Really no need at all to say that. You have so much stuff going on right now, that she completely understands. I just know she does.

I’m liking this to acknowledge! That’s DEVASTATING!! I couldn’t imaging losing all of my goodreads tracking! I’d never know what I’ve read and what I want to read!! I’m so sorry!! 😭😭😢

You can export your lists! 😊
Click on “my books” then under tools on the left side you’ll see import/export. On the top right of the next page, click “export to csv file”. It takes a few minutes, but it throws everything in a spreadsheet! I hope the gremlins don’t delete many peoples accounts, but it’s always nice to have a back up. So, I’ll sleep better tonight knowing I have a safety net. 😉 Have a good day. And a great weekend.

Yeah. They offered a whole lot of nothin’. They really should notify people if a request to delete an account comes through. Especially as once it’s deleted there’s no retrieving it. Someone hacked into my account and if it could happen to me, it could happen to anyone.

I was actually hoping that you might read my latest blog as it contains my first raw manuscript, it has been requested by publishers so I am now awaiting their reply to see what they want to do
Any advice, thoughts or critique even would be greatly appreciated x

I lost my account probably after three months, and that was devastating, but now after 3 1/2 years I think I’d go crazy!

You know I completely agree with you. Sure the site is free but they have put so many things on the site to build up accounts that I just don’t understand how it could be so easy for someone to be malicious like that. And I still want to know why someone would??? Grrr.

I didn’t even know there was such an option even available before this happened. I’ve heard of Goodreads banning people but never accounts going poof or being able to delete one. I can’t imagine how you feel because it frustrates ME that they can’t/won’t help on something like this. 😦

OMG, it’s a total nightmare! I’m so sorry kim! I would literally die if that happened with me! I think Goodreads is having some glitches. When I opened my goodreads account today, my heart just stopped. All the fifty shelf’s in my library are showing zero count. There are more than thousand books in my library but now I’m seeing only zero’s. Thankfully, the books are still there in the shelves but I’m still very afraid that they might get disappeared. I’ve seen so many people having the same issue and I really hope Goodreads resolve it soon.

I’m sorry that happened. The Internet has its good points, but it definitely has its downside too. I have a Goodreads account, but I don’t use it much. There just isn’t time for everything and I prefer WordPress, although of course WordPress isn’t perfect either.

I don’t know whether to take GR at their word that they didn’t do it, or if it was a hacker. Just in case, make sure your password is extra, EXTRA secure!

I wouldn’t have thought Goodreads would be a website people would want to get into. I don’t have very secret info on there, guess we can’t trust anyone on the internet these days.
