I tried to read Portnoy’s Complaint, but didn’t finish it. However, I enjoyed many film adaptations of his work, such as The Human Stain, Goodbye Columbus, and Elegy.
A real American legend, undoubtedly.
Best wishes, Pete.

It’s funny, Portney’s Complaint is one of his most celebrated novels, but I didn’t really care for it either. My favorites by him are American Pastoral for which he won the Pulitzer Prize, The Ghost Writer, and The Plot Against America.

First Tom Wolfe, now Philip Roth. This isn’t a good week for literary titans.☹️

I’ve seen the guys name so many times in the past but have yet to read any of his classic work.. Still feel greatly saddened by the loss of this writer.

I liked quite a few of his novels Lashaan. If you ever have time I particularly recommend Ghost Writer and American Pastoral.

I believe you might have quoted him in the past and got me to add American Pastoral to my TBR in the past after I asked you what you’d recommend from him hahah

I wasn’t even aware that Philip Roth past away. My favorite memory was when I read Roth’s “The Conversion of the Jews” for the first time at my local community college during a creative writing course. I remember thinking to myself “wow, what a beautiful story” and I have been an avid fan of Roth since that moment. I am trying to read all of his stories, sad to hear of his passing but that’s life, I am sure he lived a full life.

It’s so sad that two incredible and influential authors Roth, and Tom Wolfe passed away in the same week.
