The incomparable Granda has put together this fantastic post about the stunning op-ed by an anonymous senior White House official. I have to be honest, I have mixed feelings about this. What do you think? Is this an act of courage or cowardice?
On the 5th of September 2018, the New York Times has made the unprecedented move to publish an op-ed piece by an anonymous source. The NY Times executives know who the insider is but they are withholding his /her name for his/ her protection.
The op-ed piece reinforces what is depicted in the recently published Bob Woodward book, ‘Fear.’
Most Americans have figured out that the republican President Donald Trump is unfit to carry out the duties required of the US presidency. What we can’t figure out and forgive are that the GOP members working in the US Congress have failed in their oversight duties to protect this country and its citizens from the harm being rendered to its institutions and to its democratic values by this immoral, incompetent leader. They have been MIA in living up to their oaths of office.
Here is the rest of the story…

Kim, I have a question – in general… Is there a rule the people of a country can veto an elected leader. We are also having a lot of problems but we don’t have a law and people in opposition don’t seem to oppose validly in my country…
Can an elected politician be thrown out if his office by the people? We are the ones who vote, and after they come into power, we have no value

I wonder if anyone could actually go to jail for withholding the name of whoever wrote it? I remember my professor telling us that a journalist could go to jail if they didn’t reveal the sources of their story, especially if it involved crime. It might be a different situation since it’s an opinion piece.

Well the person who wrote it would lose their job! I am reading it now.

Despite Trump’s “Treason?”tweet Lisa, there’s no crime here. No classified material was given away.

True true! But…this might cause authorities to investigate Trump more. Ugh! Trump just needs to be out of office. Congrats on 4,000 followers btw!

I suspect Robert Mueller has been methodically conducting his investigation while blocking out all the noise and uproar. There’s a reason why he agreed Trump could submit written answers in response to questions about Russian collusion, but still wants a sit down regarding obstruction of justice.
And thank you. It’s so hard to believe!

That makes a lot of sense! Let’s see what unfolds… Lol.

Hmm..I just saw this in the news. I have a bit of mixed feelings about this too. I don’t feel sorry for Trump, could never feel sorry for that spineless man…but on the other hand, this does feel a bit well cowardly I guess is the word?
On another note…have you seen the follower count?? Just one more and you have 4000 wordpress followers. That is just amazing!! 😊😊

I would have have respected Anonymous and his/her fellow “resistance” members had they had the courage to invoke the 25th amendment. As it is, by writing this op-ed I fear they may have precipitated the constitutional crisis they were supposedly trying to avoid.
And yes. I just reached 4000 followers! Thanks for noticing Michel.🤗

I just hope that things will change for your country as currently there are days I really feel sad about everything that’s going on.
On a brighter not: congratulations!! 4000 followers, how awesome is that😊😊

Congrats Kim, 4000 is well deserved (bet you’re glad they don’t all comment at once 🤣
I suppose I’m glad they are trying to rein #45 in, but what a stupid way to have to do things, that’s not ‘governing’, that’s damage control.

Thanks Fraggle. It’s hard to believe! I’d be in so much trouble if every commented at once!😁
I agree Fraggle. What their doing is sort of a silent coup and by writing this op-ed telling everyone about it and patting themselves on the back, Anonymous may just have made things so much worse.

This is all over the blogs, so I will repeat what I wrote on some others.
Whether or not we like the result, we have to tolerate those elected by the supposedly democratic systems we live under. For example, I haven’ t voted for the party in power in this country, ever, yet I am stuck with them. Over here, we have similar dealings from those disgruntled by losing the Brexit vote, and in both countries there is a determination to overcome what is often described as ‘the will of the people’, even if that will was demonstrated by a narrow margin.
So if we don’t like the result, we can campaign. We can openly protest, make our objections know. We can wait for the next election, and change the administration. They are the options open to us. In your system, you also have the opportunity to impeach the president, if there is sufficient proof against him. But to work behind the scenes to overthrow the elected government has another name, and that’s Treason, pure and simple.
Best wishes, Pete.

Mr. Trump is somewhat of a special case among world leaders Pete in that he is dangerously unstable. That said, there is the invocation of the 25th Amendment that could address that. Yes it would throw this country into upheaval, but so does this op-ed. I fear that whoever Anonymous is, he or she has just made things much worse. I don’t believe this “resistance” group’s actions meet the definition of treason, nor do I really buy into them being patriots. No, I would call them enablers who are babysitting a mentally ill president in order to fulfill their own agenda.

Every time I think things can’t get any crazier Sophie, something proves me wrong. I honestly am so worried about this country and where we’re going to be at the end of the Trump presidency, whenever that is.🙇🏻♀️
And thank you! I can’t believe I have that many followers!🤗
