Many of you have already heard that France’s Notre Dame Cathedral is burning. As heartbreaking as it is to watch the destruction of this religious, cultural and historic icon, the tragic loss to France is unimaginable. My thoughts and prayers go out to the French people.
Update: According to a French fire official, although it will take another few hours to get control of the fire, it looks like they’ll be able to save the two towers.
Such a tragedy…

Unbelievable John. It survived the French Revolution and both World Wars only to be destroyed probably because of renovations.

My wife and I were there last fall, and then the Christmas before for Cmas Eve mass…you are right – it survived so much but the renovation seems to be the cause…so so sad

History burning down…what happened? I haven’t heard any news in two days.

Nobody’s sure what started the fire, but it happened near the spire where current renovations were being done.

I’m still watching…….I can’t look away. So sad to have survived so many years, wars, and everything else to go down like this. What if it wasn’t an accident? I hope I’m wrong but what if…….so heartbreaking…😢😢

The fire chief just released a statement that said they’re not sure if they’re going to be able to stop the fire. Right now I’d be shocked if this was set deliberately given that the flames seemed to have broken out right where the current renovations were taking place, and that it happened right after the Cathedral closed.

Julie saw this on Facebook. Such a shame.
But we lost Windsor Castle in a fire, and it was rebuilt.
Best wishes, Pete.

So sad. But at least they were able to save the main structure of it and will rebuild.

For a while there it looked as though they weren’t going to be able to save anything so this is good news. I had no idea there was so much wood as part of the inside. Someone said on CNN that there’s something like 32 acres of wood that was used.

Wow! I had no idea that much wood had been used, either.

I’m so happy they were able to save the main structure. I can’t image how heartbreaking it was to watch the main spire fall.

It is Alex. At least they were able to put it out before everything was ruined. And the fundraising has already reached over 700 million.
