As many of you know, there’s been another mass shooting in Texas, this time in Midland and Odessa. The night before, ten teens were shot at a Mobile, Alabama football game by 17-year-old Deangelo Parnell. Thankfully there haven’t been any deaths from that shooting. But tragically that’s not the case in the West Texas shootings. 36-year-old Seth Ator killed 7 people and wounded 22 others, including a 17-month-old baby, when he decided to go on his rampage for whatever the hell reason. So, here are this year’s mass shooting stats as of right now:
Who’s next?
the first statistic, 255 mass shootings. at this point, in 2019 is like a horror movie.
we need to admit we have lost our position as any sort of world leader and admit we have fallen beyond repute.
when you ignore suffering, socially rejected white young males, in particular, at this time, in history, when it is happening a lot, they get mad.
when their parents, and our culture, stuffs ak 47s in their hands, they use them.
how bout we don’t ignore rejected people.
how bout we don’t give any private citizen military grade automatic weapons in our country.
our president, who owns property in florida just said he “doesn’t what a category 5 hurricane, is.”
this is who we are.

The stats are horrifying Cindy. And I agree, there’s no support system in place for such a large segment of our society who are suffering. For me, there is no reason why citizens should have access to military assault weapons. I know the argument is that if someone wants to kill people, he or she will find a way and while that is the truth, let’s not make it any easier for them. There’s another young man from Boson who was planning a mass shooting at his North Carolina college. One of the reasons why he wanted to go to school in NC is because it’s easier to get guns there in MA.

I’m so sorry you had another mass shooting… I hope you and your loved ones are alright. It’s true owning a gun makes it more probable that one day it’ll be used. But I feel that in the US the people feel very attached to the second amendment. In Europe we don’t have a choice because it’s just forbidden to own a fire weapon so people often kill with knifes so nowhere is safe

The 2nd amendment is indeed firmly ingrained in our culture. I and so many others aren’t even for overturning it. We just want common sense laws enacted that keep pace with modern technology and the times.

Even if the Democrats win in 2020, which I think is unlikely with Biden, I can see no real change to gun control in the US, Kim. I fear you have to brace yourself for this ‘American disease’ to continue to get worse, Kim.
Best wishes, Pete.

Although current polls show Biden, Warren and Sanders all beating Trump, I expect those numbers to change. I’m not giving up though. There’s also the House, Senate and governor races.

Sadly I have to agree witih Pete. I heard about this on the news last night and thought ‘just another day in America’.

Our nations are sad Kim, we don’t have mass shootings here of course, but everyday the news tells us someone’s been a victim of knife crime, and children are being used as drug runners in a huge operation across the country. I despair. 😰 it sometimes feels like the world is going to hell in a hand basket.

I also agree with Pete and that makes me sad, not because I don’t like Pete but because nothing is going to change. We have been dealing with mass shootings since Columbine and no matter who is president, Republican or democrat, no one does anything😢

No. There’s always a lot of hand wringing, but nothing substantial is done. I’m hoping that with all these shootings though, that in 2020 with 11 governorships in play and numerous senate races, that maybe things will change. I’ve said many, many times I’m not for overturning the 2nd amendment. I also think that people who truly want to commit murder will find a way regardless. But do we have to make it so easy for them?

You do realize that five times as many people are shot every weekend in Chicago and the Democrat mayor does nothing to stop it. Every weekend! 1800 so far this year. Stopping that travesty would be worthy of a post. But if it’s just an opportunity to be anti-Trump and anti-gun, I understand.

It’s fine Jacqie. We all have our opinions and I welcome everyone’s as long as there’s no name calling or negative attacks.

Yes Jacqui I do know about Chicago’s ongoing gun violence and this post was neither strictly anti-Trump as I acknowledge both Democrats and Republicans are to blame for offering thoughts and prayers and not much else. I do blame Trump and the Republicans more however as they’ve basically let themselves be bought by the NRA, who refuses to consider even the most rudimentary gun control legislation. And I’m not anti-gun. I’m a gun owner myself, but I don’t believe military grade guns need to be available to the public.
As far as Chicago goes, while 46 deaths in August is unacceptable, that number is down by 23% from August of last year. Additionally there have been 331 reported murders within Chicago city limits so far this year but that’s decreased 14% from this time last year. And, 7,500 illegal guns have been seized by Chicago police in 2019.

I like your open-minded attitude so let me add one more. Since many people hate reading, optics are important. Why not put a nasty photo of the Chicago mayor along with Trump? Or Pelosi? That would show you acknowledge a shared responsibility.
Thanks for not calling me those deplorable names that usually start this sort of conversation!

I believe Chicago has a new mayor, Lori Lightfoot who has only been in office since April. I think I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt before including her in the group of uncaring, ineffectual politicians. As far as Pelosi goes, I’m not a huge fan of hers, but I believe since she’s gotten back the Speakership, she’s been trying to get gun control legislation up for a vote, including expanded background checks, but she keeps getting blocked by McConnell in the Senate.

What a tragedy! The stats are shocking. It just bugs me that these victims are usually innocent. Like you could be going about your day but end up getting shot because someone is angry about something that you probably know nothing about. It’s so sad.
Prayers going up for all those who have been affected by these senseless killings.

It’s terrible that these tragedies keep happening and it seems they will only increase in frequency and severity. I’m so disheartened by the callousness of the people that commit these terrible acts. I pray that God’s Kingdom comes soon to rid this world of the wickedness around us.
