I’m sure many of you know about the youth climate strike that took place in over 163 countries around the world last Friday. Inspired by 16-year-old Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, the Global Climate Strikes may turn out to be the largest mass protest for action on climate change in history. Greta was also a speaker at the first Climate Action Summit at the United Nations this morning. What she had to say took less than 5 minutes, yet her words were so incredibly powerful. I implore you, if you haven’t already, please listen to what someone from the next generation has to say regarding the horrifying legacy we are leaving them.

Massive thanks to you, Kim for introducing me to this phenomenal young lady. Wow. That had to be one of the best speeches- no- the best speech I’ve ever heard on the realities of climate change. I hope she is aware and is being made aware of how impactful this powerful speech was and will continue to be.

The responses to this brave young lady on Twitter etc are absolutely horrifying. I honestly fear for her safety and I can’t believe that’s apparently where we are as a planet now.

It’s disgusting when teenagers like Greta or Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg are viciously threatened and attacked for simply asking “adults” to do the right thing.

Thanks John. Sadly it is going to be up to the next generation in terms of climate change, gun control, etc… We adults have allowed ourselves to become so hopelessly deadlocked that I just don’t see change happening until these kids start voting.

That’s a great point…they aren’t right about everything – no one is – but they are smart to raise awareness and protest against the things that are going to make their futures worse…

I found her to be insightful and intelligent. She needs to be listened to. I also saw that POTUS rudely yawned and looked at his watch and made it evident that he was not interested in her important words.

I’ve been reading trump’s twitter for the very first time, he does write the phrase “fake news” an awful lot, I’m left thinking attacking a free press is a shameful crime.

A Watergate scenario could never happen again. Trump would pile ALL the tapes on the lawn outside the Oval Office, set them alight whilst accusing ‘The Post’ of fake news!!! (Democracy is dying as it is in the UK 😦 )

With everything going on in the UK I don’t know if you’ve caught any of the news coming out of the U.S., but things are pretty much imploding over here.

I have 😦 unfortunately. I’m a political news junky by nature and I have to admit in all my 53years I can honestly say I’ve NEVER experienced such chaos. Hopefully my nieces are coping well, perhaps youngsters are more resilient than we give them credit for.
(As for Boris ‘Trump’ Johnson, over here it’s widely regarded that you can neither trust or believe a word he says………………. he even lies to the Queen.)

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but when all is said and done I think what Trump has done is going to be worth than Nixon. IMHO it actually borders on treason.
I’m so sorry for what the UK is going through. I was reading some of the reports of what happened when Parliament reconvened yesterday. What a mess.

She’s remarkable but I fear the world leaders will praise her and applaud her (apart from Trump) then carry on paying lip service to what needs to be done to save the planet. They won’t be around to see the devastation they have caused.

Hey, last time we talked, it was in my “United We Stand” article. I think it is fine we should fight against governments that do not recognize climate change, but I am confused about the government action she is proposing.

I’m in the process of finishing a big move, but you can access everything online. Let me just say no one person has all the right answers, but she’s right in that we’re at point of no return and cutting emissions by 50% isn’t going to be enough. As Greta said in front of Congress last month “…listen to the scientists.”

Per capita (which is the important measure), those two countries’ carbon footprints are way lower than ours.

Which is why I yell about Australia’s gross contribution to warming; luckily the country’s population is quite small, but that’s no excuse. They too have a climate-denying government and significant “news” media (Murdoch-owned, of course) that deny climate science.

I fail to see why per capita matters. The biggest ting we should do is to enforce more regulations on China and India because they contributions as a whole can be regulated if the government puts regulations on fossil fuel industries
