As most of you know I’m quite vocal regarding my dislike of the current administration running the country. While By Hook Or By Book continues to be primarily a book and entertainment blog, I wanted to put out a warning that over the next year you will probably see more political posts as well. For anyone who disagrees with my views (How dare you! Just kidding!), I welcome all opinions, and relish robust debate. I just ask for respect and civility, whether you’re replying to me or another commenter. There’s too much bitterness and hatred in this country, and I don’t want to see it spilling over here.
It’s okay to disagree with each other, what’s not okay is to hate each other because we disagree.

I think it’s more important to offer up a point of view – and FACTS – now more than ever. We have now entered an era where yelling and screaming lie after lie is acceptable political discourse. For anyone who has heard Republicans complain about the PROCESS of the impeachment investigation – read the constitution. They are following the rules TO THE LETTER – and do you know that DOZENS of Republicans are in the room as well? That is NOT what is being yelled and screamed – and tweeted – but it’s true…why don’t we all try to accepts facts…sadly won’t happened and more lies lies lies is what awaits us for the next year +…one last thing: why don’t we all make up our own minds without be swayed by the avalanche of negative political ads, most of which have been paid for by groups OUTSIDE the US…

I expect the false and misleading rhetoric to get even worse in the coming months John. As always, I will endeavor to make sure anything I post is 100% factual.
And I absolutely agree with you regarding the hypocrisy coming from Republicans like Lindsey Graham. What are they going to complain about when the public hearings begin next month?🤷🏻♀️

Quite right. We shouldn’t hate the enablers of/apologists for an administration whose pollution rollbacks killed an estimated 10,000 Americans last year, that facilitated the potential genocide of our allies this year, that locks children up in cages . . .

I wound up getting into quite the debate with two people when I posted the open letter from the military wife to the Kurds the
beginning of the week, and while we certainly didn’t change each other’s minds, our exchanges never slid into insults. That’s all I’m asking for.🤞🏻

I started redflagflying to have a political outlet. But before that, I used to publish opinion posts on my main blog. You do what you want with your own blog, Kim. Let the gainsayers do their worst! 🙂

My faith in politicians has been seriously dented in the last year because of the fiasco in the UK called Brexit. Everyone is just pointing fingers at everyone else and assigning blame.instead of just getting on with the job they’ve been elected to do

One point I want to make before I go is this crap started way before President Trump was elected. Obama wasn’t the saint you all claim him to be. Just watch and wait. All politicians are crooked and lie! All of them!! Both sides!!

I was thinking of the discussion you, Jacqui and I had the other day Susan.😁 While we obviously continue to disagree, we didn’t resort to insults and name calling.
I think politics has always been ugly. What’s changed is the role that things like social media, and 24-hour cable news channels have taken.
As for Obama, I never thought he was a saint. There were many things I disagreed with him about. However, try as I might, there’s only one thing that this administration has had a hand in that I agree with, and that’s criminal justice reform. Otherwise, instead of draining the swamp, Trump has added to it. And what I really can’t forgive the eroding of civil rights for LGBTQs, the constant attacks against a woman’s right to choose, the demonization of Muslims and other immigrants, and the rollback of even the most basic of environmental protections.
And, call me a cockeyed optimist, but although Washington is rife with corruption, I do believe that the term “honest politician” isn’t a complete oxymoron—at least not yet. I believe there are those, although it’s increasingly difficult, that try to serve their constituents and country to the best of their ability. People like Elijah Cummings, who sadly just passed away.

Sadly yes the are very similar, both darlings of the white working class voter who longs for their country to be ALL white again………….. all you need to understand is Brexit is another phrase for anti ‘immigration migrants asylum seekers and political refugees’…………. sound similar?

I understand the mechanics behind Brexit, I just have trouble following the way the battle is playing out between Johnson and Parliament.

This battle between Government (representing half the nation’s people) and Parliament (the opposing half) is likened to similar political upheaval throughout centuries of British History, the only difference being many of those ended in bloody civil war! Sad times 😦 .

Thanks Suzan. I’ve been blogging since 2014, and while most of my posts concern books and entertainment, I do delve into more serious issues including politics. Just about everyone here is very respectful, but there are topics that can get heated, hence the reminder.
I haven’t read Mr. Naskar’s book, but I saw the quote on Goodreads and loved it. I’m going to have to download the book especially now that I know he’s a favorite of yours.

I know, in India if you write about politics, the people here will toast you and eat you with an omelette but you have a right to write whatever you feel like. Abhijit is a guy who challenged God with his words. His books are the soul of Indian literature. He writes mostly self-care but his books, I don’t have words. I wish I could meet him once and hug him tightly. He is an angel on earth. 😍🥰
