Tomorrow the public hearings part of the impeachment inquiry begins at 10 a.m. These are something everyone in the country should be watching no matter whose “side” you’re on. Thanks to Jeff for writing this thoughtful post.
Starting this Wednesday, November 13, 2019, the public portion of the impeachment inquiry of President Trump will begin. Will the American people care?
It’s an open question.
For a while, I wondered whether the major networks were going to cover the hearings. Much to my surprise, they indeed will be covering the event. Scheduled to appear Wednesday are Ambassador William Taylor and Deputy Assistant for European Affairs George Kent. ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS will preempt regularly scheduled programming for live coverage. It was music to my ears.
I knew for sure that the major cable news networks and CSPAN would be covering the hearings, but now that the major networks are in the fray, there are no excuses for the American people. If you want to watch the proceedings, you can do so in multiple ways. If you can’t watch them live, you can undoubtedly tape them, or watch…

It’s a sad state of affairs that 40% or more of the American people do NOT think that Trump did anything wrong…we will see how this plays out, but I am assuming he gets impeached but the senate votes NOT to renew his contract and therefore we must defeat him at the polls in November 2020..oh, and take out those Republicans who supported this illegal, corrupt behavior…

There are so many things I don’t understand about why his supporters still back him John. Personally speaking, if a democratic president had been caught withholding an important aid package to a country we’re allies with in unless they agreed to open an investigation into a potential political opponent, I would have been calling for impeachment. And in addition to the Ukraine dealings, there’s the repeated breaking of emoluments laws. And, have you heard all the revelations coming out of the Roger Stone trial? There’s even more proof that he obstructed justice by lying to Mueller.
I have a couple of followers who are Trump supporters that I engage in a pretty respectful debate on political posts, but one thing that’s repeatedly come up is that they think I only listen to left wing pundits. I don’t know if it’s the librarian in me, but I get my news from from a wide variety of sources—both liberal and conservative and non-partisan. But most importantly I listen to what the people involved have to say, or as in the case of the depositions that have been released, I’ve read them. People on both sides need to watch and listen to what’s happening because we are on a very dangerous path.

I had someone say to me last year, when I simply stated “those are the facts”…they replied: “those are YOUR facts.” One of Trump’s greatest skills to to make people being a con man….a sucker born every minute…

Yes, a very sad state of affairs…there is no shame in being inaccurate and having to correct yourself…doubling down on a lie is the lowest form of “leadership”

They’re broadcasting it live internationally, too! I’ll certainly be watching from abroad.

I heard BBC is broadcasting it which floored me.

I wish I could stay home to watch it unfold, but will catch up. I hope that people will be impacted by the open testimony, though sadly, I’m sure some will not.

I’m hoping more people who have to work will do the same.

Will no doubt see some of it on the beeb, somehow though I don’t see him getting the sack.

He’ll most likely be impeached, but atheist Senate won’t vote to remove him.

Nothing more than a Schiff show! I can’t wait to vote for President Trump once again in 2020!!💜
The American people voted for Donald Trump and the Democrats need to finally accept that! They lost and after three years they still can’t accept it!

Trump lost the popular vote. And, Republicans have been screaming for more openness (even though Democrats have been following the rules they set down when they controlled the House). All I’m asking is that people watch and stay informed.

They (Democrats) change the rules as they go. So what he lost the popular vote, his base hasn’t wavered and it won’t after this coup attempt either.
Swing states have had enough of the Schiff show and the Dems should start stocking up on tissues now.
I can’t wait for the MAGA rally tomorrow night!👍😂

I have two hypothetical questions to ask you Susan, if you don’t mind.
1. If President Obama, had withheld aid to a foreign country in order to extort them into opening an investigation into a political open, would you feel the same way?
One of Mr. Trump’s lawyers argued before a NY appellate court a couple of weeks ago that even if he committed murder, he couldn’t be charged until he was out of office. Do you agree?

Biden admitted on tape that they were with holding money to Ukraine until the prosecutor was fired……what’s the difference?
I do not believe that if President Trump committed murder he wouldnt be charged.

Biden and the rest of the European community were calling for the removal of Shokin because he was so corrupt.
Trump’s lawyer argued before three federal judges that he can’t be charged with any crime including murder while he’s in office.

I heard that but don’t think it would be true…..murder is murder Kim.
As for Biden…….whats the difference?? Do you really believe that money hasn’t been with held before??
Guess we will just have to see what happens……I really want to hear from that so called whistleblower.

I don’t think anyone accept for Mr. Trump and his lawyers would except that legal argument, but I was curious as to what his base thinks. Is there anything he could do that would be a “bridge too far?”
As far as the Bidens go, there’s a huge difference. First, Hunter Biden’s position on the board of Burisma has already been looked into and nothing has been found. Second, Trump (a sitting president) used the promise of aid to force Zelensky into opening a new investigation into a potential political opponent. This. Is. Wrong! I ask again, would you have felt this was perfectly acceptable if President Obama had done this?

You edited my comment?? Why?? Because I named the so called whistleblower? Everyone knows who it is Kim……
I can’t believe you edited my comment…….as you say. This. Is. Wrong! I won’t be commenting anymore on your political posts for fear of being censured!

I did edit the just the name of the whistleblower Susan because I don’t feel it’s morally right to name him. It hasn’t even been confirmed that he’s the whistleblower. The alt-right named someone else as well who they got wrong. I’m sorry if you take offense at that, but this is my blog. Omitting the name in no way changed the content of your comment.

Kim you are quite within your right to remove someone’s name if you so wish, especially if wrongdoing hasn’t been proved correct. 🙂 I think someone lol needs to take a chill pill and relax.

Hear Hear Andrew! The only thing I draw the line at is direct personal attacks and putting a possible whistleblower’s life in danger by outing him.

Thanks Andrew. Right wing personalities and even actor Dean Cain, released the name of someone else who they said was the whistleblower and had to admit they were wrong. Unfortunately this wasn’t in time to prevent the death threats aimed at the poor man.

she just saved you from a federal investigation at a minimum. It is against Federal Law to name a federal whistle-blower. If any media outlet did so they will be in extreme trouble.

Thank you so much for your support Suze. While it’s clear under the law that the Inspector General is not allowed to release the whistleblower’s name, the rest is incredibly murky and is the subject of current debate among legal scholars.

Always keeping in mind that he already admitted to doing this in public, in front of the press. There are others, who were present, who openly admit that this is indeed what he did.

Just one of many “overlooked” facts.

It has a lot of coverage here, Kim. They sound excited about it, but I fear that is misplaced, and he will escape unscathed.
Best wishes, Pete.

I have little doubt that he’ll be impeached Pete, but the Senate won’t vote to remove him. This is why Democratic leadership didn’t want to do this. Unfortunately, Trump kept moving the goalposts and left them with no choice.

I mirror a greatany of these. There’s not much logic involved, but the truth is there (and it’s playing out on my screen at this moment) and it is very, very disturbing.

The testimony so far is very disturbing Sarah and backs up the Democrats assertion that this inquiry has moved far from the original report from the whistleblower.

Oh yes, I agree with you there. The bombshell of the new phone conversation between Sondland and the president is quite unsettling as well. As re the Ukrainians really just a pawn?

Wow Ambassador Taylor!! Who needs a whistleblower!!??

This is what Democrats have been saying for the last couple of weeks. While the impeachment inquiry was prompted by the whistleblower, it’s moved far beyond that because of all the witnesses.

Shades of ‘Deep Throat’ and the Watergate investigation leading to Nixon’s impeachment.

The similarities between the Nixon and this affair have been prevalent from the beginning Andrew, but with each new revelation, it’s becoming clear that what Trump has done is even worse.

This is why I can’t garner up any hope for this situation. I seriously doubt anything will come of it regardless of the mountain of evidence. I wouldn’t even be shocked if he were reelected, not because I want that ugh, but it’s just no one seems to care about any of the horrible things he’s done. None of it matters, and it honestly hurts to care so much in this unjust world.

It does boggle the mind the excuses the majority of the Republican Party make for him. History is not going to look back kindly on them.

I’ve watched the hearings. Trump has certainly abused his office. He’s such a petty man and an abusive person. He’s been a bully from the start.

I find it a little frightening that people are still split over this whole issue.
