While washing hands is always important, the current health crisis has given this mundane task a new sense of urgency. The CDC recommends you should be lathering up for no shorter than 20 seconds, and suggests you hum Happy Birthday TWICE to keep track. Well, the folks at CNN have some more enjoyable tunes to bop to while you’re getting rid of those pesky germs.

And as I’m a firm believer in the old adage Laughter is the best medicine, here are some other ways people are looking at the lighter side of things.
Thanks for sharing this Kim!
Loved the videos!

I figured given your profession you wouldn’t need any helpful tips Shalini. Still, singing Dancing Queen while scrubbing in might give you some extra pep.😁

Habbits? nope, habits! Though there is a case for relatives of Frodo there I think 😀

I’d expect people in healthcare wouldn’t need any help.😁

These are great, thanks for sharing. Also, it reminds me of something I saw on Facebook about reciting the Star Trek intro while washing your hands since it’s 20 seconds long.

This was a great and most thorough (and thoroughly enjoyable) post on the subject of proper hand cleansing. I would like to add one thought, if I may — Medical students are taught to wash their hands in the same manner with one added step: They are instructed to wash all the way to their elbows … especially if they plan to attend to surgery. But I would submit that while the steps given in your post are adequate to meet the criteria for effective hand washing, the extra step of taking the process all the way to the elbows would further enhance the benefits. Thanks for sharing this most instructive post. You have provided important service to a lot of people with it.

I’m glad you liked it John. So true about washing to the elbows. I don’t think most people would be willing to take it that far though unless the CDC and WHO started recommending it.

As an even greater precaution, one could consider going the distance and washing down to the knees as well ….LOL …. just kidding!

We had a news feature on the BBC telling us how to wash our hands. Luckily, I was an EMT for long enough not to need instruction. Or Songs. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

But I’m having so much fun picturing you washing your hands while singing “Dancing Queen” Pete. You just popped my happy bubble.😒

Pingback: Proper Hand Washing – THE LIMING REPORT
Working in customer service and using a public restroom for ten plus years I was honestly always stunned by the number of people who just don’t at all. Then they come up to your desk to exchange money, you see them at the carousel (we had a big one where I worked), it would drive me to distraction even then. Hopefully at this point people realize it’s for everyones health.

I love this, Kim! Great videos! At school the children sing “Happy Birthday”. Yes, it takes 15 children forever to wash their hands, but it’s important.

They’re probably better at it than we are!

Actually, no. They want to stick their hands under the water as soon as they get the soap. Singing “Happy Birthday” really helps them to rub the bubbles. 🙂
