During any crisis, be it war, fire, flood, famine or pestilence, it’s important to stay up to date with important information, but it’s also really easy to be overloaded by non-stop discussion and bombardment by both media and social channels.
In recent weeks, it seems that every time one turns the radio on or watches anything on commercial television, the only thing anyone talks about is corona virus related. It’s relentless. Government officials, scientists, medical authorities, celebrities, talk shows, podcasts, and current affairs specials are all contributing to the conversations, with varying degrees of accuracy and relevance. Every news bulletin tells us how many people have been diagnosed and how many have died.
It would be quite possible to consume media about global developments, self isolation, quarantine, and empty supermarket shelves all day, every day— and there are probably people doing that.
That’s not healthy.

It’s been so stressful and sometimes I catch myself clicking one article after another for hours and it’s just like WHYYYYY. So I have just gone to reading funny books that are on the lighter side and trying to just listen to some music. Rather than watch the news for hours and hours I only tune in for 10 or 11 oclock news. I’m already stir crazy with the stay at home order. I dont need to make myself nuts over it all

That is a great post that you shared, Kim.
I have had such anxiety lately and on some days it’s just overwhelming!
I will read Joanne’s post again later today.
On another note, my brother-in-law is doing okay for the time being and we are hoping it stays that way.
But, it’s truly horrific how the virus is spreading in NYC and no help from the Federal Gov as yet!
We have other family members that live in the state of NY and I worry about them.

Thanks Kim. My husband keeps in touch with the family members in NY and all are okay. His brother is in quarantine now as well as his wife. We hope they both will be fine.

Thanks, Kim. I needed this. I’ve been trying very hard not to panic and to keep calm, but occasionally I get overwhelmed with terror thinking about the economy, the loss of jobs, the hit to our local businesses, worry about my family’s health, worry about my job, etc. It’s easy to start going down the rabbit hole. Reading your repost calmed me. I am still a bit freaked, but I plan to post every single day on Facebook positive things we can do to get through this time, and also remind everyone about the true heroes in our community – our medical professionals, our police officers, our fire fighters, our delivery service personnel, our mail carriers, our truck drivers, our janitors and custodians, and our grocery clerks!!! Stay well.

Joanne has some great advice. My husband and I are retired so thank God we don’t have to worry about job loss, but my heart aches for everyone who does. It’s easy to fall into the endless loop of anxiety and worry, especially with 24/7 news coverage. I’m trying to cut my news watching to checking in once in the morning and once at night. I’ve been walking 2-3 miles a day, blogging, reading, and binge-watching. Right now I’m trying not to obsess about the hoarding going on. We have enough food and supplies until next week, but then we’re going to have to venture out which makes me nervous.

Take good care of yourselves. My sister and I went out very early yesterday morning to stand in line for things like toilet paper. It’s really not that bad. I mean it’s scary and I do advise that you use caution but really the majority of people are being very nice right now. The stores in my area are limiting 3 items per household which helps with the ridiculous hoarding.
