Hi everyone. The election season is upon us and passions are running high on both sides. As you know, I’m not a shrinking violet regarding the expression of my feelings regarding what’s happening in the U.S. As such, you will be seeing more politically-themed posts from me over the next couple of months, and I welcome ALL comments and discussion. As usual my one request is that people keep it civil. That means no personal insults, no name calling, no nasty innuendos from anyone. If you disagree with something I write or with a comment from someone, speak up. But argue with facts, not attacks. I think it’s important to have safe places to express different views and I hope By Hook Or By Book will always be one of those.
Sigh…..Sad days. Thank you for taking a stand.

Looking forward to those Pete. In all likelihood, I personally will be voting for Biden as I live in a red state, but I’d be interested in your alternatives.

I look forward to your political posts, Kim.
As for anyone who would insult or belittle during any conversations, I think that is just “a very sad and empty person inside of themselves’!!!

Thanks Margie. I think people on both sides are angry and fed up, which doesn’t do much for civility.

Yes, I agree with you, Kim but why does someone have to get mean or personal during a rant?
I spoke with a friend that I have known for a long time ago a few days ago ~ I had not spoken to her in a while and called to see how she was doing ~ the subject turned to politics ~ I know she is a Republican but I did not expect her to start ‘name calling’ ~ she told me that I was stupid to not be supporting trump and that I was just “like so many other Democrats”
My friend is a good person who lost her son to suicide and I am always there to support her but I just do not get her being unkind to me ~ sad days! 😦

Wow! That is nasty, coming from a friend. I’m sorry Margie.

Thanks Kim~ It was not a fun conversation ~ my friend made me very sad!
She went on and on about how trump cares about the American people, I told her to stop as I was afraid I was going to start cursing!
This is now two of my friends who think trump is great ~ I just do not get it??????

In this political climate, I don’t think you can change anyone’s mind anymore, we are too polarized. You can convince the undecided, I guess. We just need to make sure everyone who can vote does so.

Indeed Peg. I’m not doing this with the idea of changing anyone’s mind. My political posts are more to inform and discuss what’s happening here.

First and foremost: VOTE. Regardless of HOW you vote, just VOTE. Other than that, keep a sharp eye out for obvious efforts to suppress the vote, primarily in areas that vote Democratic. Let everyone have their say.

Will be thinking about you folks in the months ahead.
This is one of these crossroads times all nations go through. In this case whether to try and restore the dialogue or just carry on separating, which always ends up badly.
We’ve seen it so many times here in Europe.
