This was quite the week huh? As if an ongoing pandemic wasn’t enough, a good portion of East Coast of the U.S. had to deal with Hurricane Isaias. Are you starting to get the impression that the Powers That Be are seriously ticked off at the human race? Here’s how things are going in Alabama.
There are now 93,402 Alabamians who have tested positive for Covid-19 and 1,654 who have died. In the last seven days that’s 7,640 new cases and 89 more deaths. After two days of semi good news of having under 1,000 new cases each day, yesterday we jumped back up to 1,626. So, that’s disappointing. But, as Mr. Trump says: “It is what it is.” Sorry for the sarcasm.
Two school districts reopened today with three more to follow tomorrow. Most districts however are holding off until the end of August or after Labor Day, in order to give schools and teachers more time to prepare. Hopefully things go well, but I’m quite nervous about this.
On Monday, armed with my trusty mask, I ventured out to change my driver’s license to reflect that I’m now a resident of Alabama. While I was waiting in my socially distanced chair, there was one guy about four seats down from me who had his mask dangling around his neck and persisted in sighing repeatedly. He then informed me that he was waiting to take the test for carrying hazardous waste for the fifth time that day. Yep. You read that right. He failed it four times! I don’t know if I’m being harsh but isn’t that a test that if you fail it twice, maybe you shouldn’t be allowed to take it again for say, at least six months?
Except for the stress, my outing was completely worth it as I now have a proper Alabama driver’s license AND I’m registered to vote!
Now I just need to figure out the absentee ballot system here, because unless the pandemic situation improves I don’t fancy voting in person in November.
For this week’s positivity I found this cool new video from the folks on the International Space Station that I think will make you all smile.
So, that all the news that’s fit to print from me this week. I hope you and yours are all still safe and sound from both the pandemic and the wild weather. Let me know how you’re doing in the comments.

So now you are officially a ‘Southern gal’. A new chapter of your life.
The hazardous waste guy should definitely never be allowed to transport anything hazardous.
Best wishes, Pete.

You’d be surprised at how many here are turning against him. Still, the state probably will go for him, even if not as much as 2016. And being the rebel that I am, I’ll still proudly cast my vote.

It’s so sad that a small percentage of us simply “act out” and make things worse for the rest of us – stay safe!

A little “Heads Up” on the absentee voting prospects for 2020. Trump recently appoinited a rabid supporter (with no postal experience at all) as head of The United States Postal Service. The first thing this guy did in his new job was to issue internal orders that effectively cause the mail to slow down by one day and there are reported to be other rules in the mill that can cause mail to be delayed for up to a two week period. One congressman is already opening an investigation into this but the general presumption is that all this is part and parcel of Trump’s desire to prevent as much absentee voting as possible because he believes that absentee voting is fraught with fraud.

Yes, I’ve been following this as well. Right now in AL they’ve extended the rules to include those who aren’t comfortable going to the voting booth due to COVID-19, but who knows if that will change.

Trump wants desperately to control the vote and he will stop at nothing to do it. I don’t believe he has the slightest intention of ever leaving the oval office.

Given that he, his family, and his company are under criminal investigation right now, he has even more reasons why he needs to hang on.

He is very clever and will never face prosecution for anything. They couldn’t remove him with impeachment either as you might recall.

Washington politics is one thing. I actually think in the real word, his house of cards might finally be starting to collapse.

It’s the same here…people that insist on underestemating the impact of the virus, or…how they could infect others. It makes me seriously mad, that’s for sure.😢
Congrats though on the Alabama driver’s license, and that you may now vote. At least luckily positive things are still happening as well, and that said this entire post oozed with that, so thanks for helping us laugh and smile! 😊

Congratulations on becoming an official citizen of Alabama and registering to vote. Where were you before Kim? I pray all the time for the US and that everyone has the wisdom to do the right thing for everyone. Love that song and this video is awesome. Stay safe my friend. And, if I see anyone hauling hazardous waste with Alabama plates, I will give them a wide berth.

It is what it is. If Biden is elected he will hurt God. Trump said he saved the 2nd Amendment because Catholics really like their guns. He saved the water supply to make it better for clothes washing machines but he realizes clothes dryers don’t need as much water. and much more of the same.
Another scary week of trying to make any sense out of the man who controls the button to start a nuclear war.
