Every Breath You Take, by The Police, has always struck me as being disturbingly stalkerish, and I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. So, being the diabolical person that I am, I thought what a perfect time of year to revisit this 80s classic. The first video is the original 1983 song performed by Sting and The Police. The second is a brilliant 2015 lyric video from Christian Venturina, of Chase Holfelder’s dark cover. And the third video is from the 2017 Halloween episode of Dancing With the Stars where Frankie Muniz and Witney Carson gave it a further memorable spin.
Yes, if he had written that about me, I would have been worried. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

I do like The Police version the most, it’s understated stalkery is so creepy. The other one is a bit melodramatic, but great for the dancec.

I like the original, but the deeply disturbed part of me loves Holdfelder’s cover. And being a Brit, you may not know this, but Frankie Muniz was a lovable child star here which makes his portrayal of a stalker even scarier!😈

I’ve never been a huge fan of the Police I’m afraid, but I have to admit that last version was very impressive, especially because of the dance. That was really well done! 😀

That dance perfectly captured the lyrics.

My son always called it the Stalker Song. I did not like the second version, I just like the Sting and Police version. Can’t watch the dance one, won’t play in my country.

I’m always shocked and afraid for humanity when women say they find that song ‘romantic’ and not a depiction of the thoughts of a stalker. Having been stalked, I can tell you that it’s spot on. Some men see us as property, not people, even today.

I’m so sorry you had that experience. I hope this post didn’t bring up any unwelcome memories. I’ve never understood people who think this is a romantic song.

No worries, years of martial arts, fencing, and Wicca (and several friends offering to beat him up…) helped. Most of all, 30 years, several countries, and a lot of therapy later, I now know that choosing my own priorities and living to that standard allows me to have my affairs set in order, which also helps.

I’ve always liked this song, but now that I listen to it more closely, I can see why you drew that conclusion, Kim.
