Hard to fathom that it’s been 8 years already. Heartbreaking.

Yet still as fresh as if it happened yesterday.

I can’t believe it has been 8 years. Such a sad, sad thing to have happened, but we need to remember the innocent victims.

Kim, thank you for helping us remember. It was a very sad time in America. Keith

We can’t ever forget Keith, and we need to keep fighting.

I’m glad that you are reminding us about this date, Kim. It is frustrating to me because I don’t feel many meaningful changes came out of this tragedy. I remember the conspiracy theorists claiming this event never took place. How hurtful for those who lost a child!

With so many conservative judges seated by McConnell and Trump, I’m afraid any chance for meaningful change are pretty much gone.

Of all the f*”king conspiracy theories, I think the deniers that this never happened are among the worst.

I absolutely agree.

Oh, I beg to disagree, kind person! The worst ones are the ones who had the gall to then confront the family members who lost loved ones, with the idea that they were in on the conspiracy, and then harass them about the loss of their children!
Yeah, those people are definitely the worse ones….

You’re correct. We are viler than we need to be because we disagree about something.

But not even this changed anything. I looked up this years shootings over there, 480 deaths and 2,459 injuries, for a total of 2,939 victims. What’s the point of remembering if everything just goes blithely on as it is? Sorry Kim, I look at those dear little faces and could weep for the stupidity of allowing millions of the population to have guns.

I know it’s frustrating Fraggle. Even during the pandemic we had all these shootings. I was going to post something longer including this year’s stats, but a migraine has gotten in the way. As long as By Hook Or By Book is up and running I’ll be here marking these heartbreaking anniversaries.

Yes it wasn’t a criticism, it needs remembering. But it’s just so mindboggling how it can keep on happening. I’ll never understand.

I didn’t take it as a criticism Fraggle. It’s infuriating and I feel the same way.

The vast majority of Americans have been socialized by decades of corporate media, to simply not give a hot damn about other Americans. This is what you’re seeing with the protests against covid restrictions.
The prevailing attitude among the most comfortable Americans is “I got mine, so f* u!”, or learned helplessness and apathy. Americans have been taught since the inception of this country that if anything bad happens to you and yours, its entirely your fault ,and not the fault of this country’s philosophies.
The myths of meritocracy, rugged individualism, and the Just World theory, are a grand trifecta of horrible for the rest of us…

Everyone hates the mass shootings, yet still there is that massive support for personal gun ownership. (Even from many US WordPress bloggers) It is never going to change over there, Kim. Never.
Best wishes, Pete.

I don’t think it will change Pete. Not in my lifetime anyway.

And nothing has been done to prevent another one…Nothing. In the case of Sandy Hook, the gun-nut mother was shot with one of her guns and then the sick son grabbed more and went on his massacre.
In the Kenosha killings, the mother not only supplied the guns for her son’s killing, she drove him from Illinois to Wisconsin to kill.
I don’t know where this is going but…

Now that Trump and McConnell has stacked the judiciary with young conservative judges all the way up to the Supreme Court, I don’t think there’s much hope in getting any kind of common sense gun control legislation passed. We can’t give up fighting though.

I knew it was the anniversary and was truly saddened to NOT see one fucking word about it anywhere on any of the news channels or papers. Some of those kids would have been getting their driver’s licenses. As someone who lives in a state where there’s been 2 mass shootings, there should be something done in memory. Thanks Kim for doing this. Hugs girl.

Yeah. Everyone was to caught up with the Electoral College, and the vaccine rollout. I understand it was a busy news day, but I was dismayed not to see any mention of it on any of the networks. This really is a day that should never be forgotten. Hugs, Cass.

Thank you, Kim. It is essential that we remember.
I think we can get sensible gun legislation. The majority of Americans support it, including gun owners. Like so many things, it all comes down to Georgia.

Indeed Annie. Fingers crossed for Georgia.
