Never was so much owed by so many to so few.
~ Winston Churchill ~
My friend Fraggle at https://fragglerocking.org just posted a picture of her husband who is a healthcare worker in the UK. She took this in response to the prompt your year in one photo. I’ll be honest and say I cried. Fraggle managed to capture the look of sadness, exhaustion, and determination that I imagine is common on the faces of all healthcare workers. There have been countless pictures taken in hospitals of medical personnel as they work tirelessly to save lives, but this simple black and white photo struck me on a visceral level like no other. While I’ve thanked frontline workers in previous posts for the sacrifices they’ve made during this year from Hell, it bears repeating. So, thank you to Phil and all the other heroes out there who kept doing what they do best…helping the rest of us.
The sadness and fatigue in his eyes…

This is a tragically powerful post, Kim. I share your profound gratitude for all the healthcare workers—and other essential workers—who have become soldiers in a war for which they never signed up. And the Churchill quotation is perfect.
Unfortunately, we are now witnessing the spread among well-meaning people who know better but just have “moved on” from the protections they know are still needed.
We’re being given fair warning of what not to do, but still people are flying and joining large gatherings of families and friends. I worry about the health care workers, and the hospital systems, that will have to confront the consequences over the next few months.
Thank you for posting.

I’m really afraid of what’s going to happen in the next few weeks after the holidays Annie. As you said, there are so many not following guidelines.

Phil’s expression does indeed sum it all up. Well done to him and his colleagues, and to you for highlighting her amazing photo.
Best wishes, Pete.

Indeed Sally. I recently read a story about a group of Kentucky nurses who held a memorial for the patients they have lost during the pandemic. One of them said she didn’t realize how badly she needed to cry until then.

Pictures like this make me realize just how selfish we are to whine because we couldn’t get our families together for the holidays. God bless him and all the other frontline workers who face death every single day! ❤

Big thanks to Phil for sure and all the other health care workers. I can’t imagine what their state is right now. It’s not a new year for them. Their new year will be when corona is gone😞😣
