I’m going to attempt not to ramble too much with this post, but I overindulged with champagne last night, so forgive me if I do. I’m also still basking in the afterglow of yesterday’s inauguration of President Biden and Vice President Harris. Don’t worry. I haven’t glued my rose colored glasses permanently to the bridge of my nose. Obviously, the U.S. still has a long and difficult path to traverse. We’re still battling a pandemic, rampant poverty, unemployment, inequality, the rise of white supremacy and other hate groups, government corruption, and the vast number of people who have no health insurance, to name just a few issues. But, for the first time in four years I feel like maybe, just maybe, the country I love so much, has a chance. From today through Sunday, I’m going to share some of my favorite moments from last night’s Inaugural Concert: “Celebrating America” and Monday, it’ll be back to usual with book reviews, etc.

Trump’s departure feels like the sudden end of a prolonged migraine.
Biden has a gargantuan mess to clean up. We’re lucky he even wanted the job. He’s hit the ground running, though, and the predicted inauguration-day protests/riots pretty much fizzled. Those are promising signs.

As a longtime migraine sufferer I can tell you you’ve hit the nail on the head with that comparison. And yes, the last 24+ hours have been quite positive.

What a wonderful way to recreate this joyous event. I’m assuming your highlights will match mine, but I found those 90 minutes were all superb. I’d love to know who orchestrated this celebration, which was by force different, but by design, near perfection.
As a special perk, the lovely video was followed by Stephen Colbert’s monologue, which made me laugh out loud.
Tough times ahead, no doubt, but we are very lucky, and Biden-Harris and team will see us through them.

It was beautifully done. I missed Stephen’s monologue, so I’ll have to check that out. I have to say, I was pleased with the majority of President Biden’s executive orders (although I’ll be honest and say I’m not a fan of executive orders in general), especially the ones regarding: Rejoining the Paris Climate Accords, putting DACA back into play, getting rid of the Muslim ban, and the transgenders in the military ban. I also felt comforted seeing Dr. Fauci in the lead of the Covid response at today’s press briefing.

Now he is sending our troops back into Syria!😥😥 First he kills Keystone, people in the U.S. And Canada losing jobs and now Syria! Seems to be in a big hurry to push it through too!

From what I’ve read the troops who were originally in Iraq were simply transferring equipment, which is common. As far as Keystone goes, I personally feel it never should have been approved to begin with. We need to shift to green energy as quickly as we can, and while doing so, re-train people who are working in fossil fuel industries. In addition to these two issues, he’s also been busy fast-tracking Covid relief, including getting out more vaccines, and other economic relief for the American people.

People in Georgia are having buyers remorse as Biden promised 2000.00 on day one for relief if they voted for the dems and now they are talking about nothing happening until middle of February or March…..I don’t get why he wants to back in the Paris Climate Accord. China is the biggest polluter in the world and they do nothing for the climate. It’s so sad…..anyway, I won’t say anymore. Off my soapbox now💞

First, please feel free to express your opinion Susan. Our disagreement before was solely about releasing a whistleblower’s name. Differing political opinions is completely different.
As far as the stimulus checks go, the $1,400 are an addition to the $600 that went out last month equaling $2,000. There is absolutely no way that Republicans would agree to anymore than this. They’re already balking at other provisions. And the timeline is pretty much on par which was expected given that the stimulus package can’t be done through executive action and must be passed by Congress. I’m being optimistic and thinking that this will be done sometime in February.
You probably won’t be surprised that I’m a supporter of the Paris Climate Accord. It’s not perfect, but it’s a multinational effort to do something to save this planet for future generations.

But what’s the point if China doesn’t particpate…..Have you ever seen the air quality over there?
Is Trudeau happy that over one thousand of his people were fired/layer off yesterday from Keystone stoppage? Don’t you think he is hearing it from his constiuents? We were energy independent. I don’t want to pay 4.00 a gallon do you?
I really don’t want to express my opinion here because all your followers will jump my sh** for it!😂
I guess we will just have to wait to see what happens right?

As far as nasty comments go, things have been fairly civil. All I can tell you is I do my best to prevent personal attacks on anyone here. And yes, as we’re only on Day 2 of the Biden presidency, I wish you’d give him a chance. Despite my extreme dislike for Trump, I personally was willing to give him a chance and held out hope that once assuming the mantle of the presidency that he would surprise me, but alas… Look, I know I’m not going to agree with everything Biden does, just like I’ve disagreed with certain things every president has done since I voted for Reagan. But at the end of the day I judge our leaders on whether the positives outweigh the negatives.

I was willing to give him a chance but 25 EO’s in the first two days????? I’m having a hard time with it….
Guess I will just have to wait and see….
Thanks for the articles. 💞

Certainly not. We had some pretty passionate debates here over the last several months. I think if everyone can stay away from personal attacks and follow policy issues etc. it’s easier. I’m generally not fond of EOs because it’s one person and nothing is permanent because the next president can just as quickly undo them. However, I’m willing to cut Biden some slack here, especially as he gave fair warning for most of them before he was even elected.

Most presidents promise to create jobs. Biden killed up to 70,000 jobs in his first 24 hours — and the true total may be even higher.😢

Well, as I said, I thought the pipeline was terrible to begin with, but to your point, that doesn’t do the people who will now be out of work any good. We’ll have to see what comes next.
