One of my all-time favorite songs is American Pie, by Don McLean, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. I stumbled across this just released music video with the acapella group Home Free and McLean himself. I absolutely love it and knew I had to share it with all of you!
Kim, you have just elevated your positive standing in my mind even further. My wife and I have seen Don McLean in concert and it was a treat. We saw him after Madonna had covered American Pie. He said “I will get to that Madonna song later.” This is his Magnum Opus, but he has so many other wonderful songs – “Vincent,” “Castles in the Air,” “Empty Chairs,” and “Superman’s Ghost.” He also does an impressive rendition of Roy Orbison’s “Crying.” Keith

Aww Shucks!🤗 Vincent is my second favorite by him. I’ll have to look up his cover of Crying.

This group can rival Pentatonix (and I don’t say that lightly) in this pitch-perfect acapella version of American Pie. It’s worth listening to multiple times.

It’s a great version, even though it looks like Don has been using the same barber as Trump. 🙂 But I think you know what comes next…Yes, I still prefer the 50 year-old original version.
Best wishes, Pete.

This is also one of my favourites. I am really missing live music at present and annoyed that the tunes on radio are not to my taste. We put dinner jazz on while we have our meals, except for breakfast, which we eat in the litchen.

YouTube has had several live-streaming concerts during the pandemic.

He is so overlooked as a excellent singer/songwriter. A poet who fine songs are much much more than the two he is well known for. And he is easy to work with, very shy and undemanding.

PS. This is indeed a great ‘cover’ of the song. Thanks, Kim.

It’s a classic here Carol Anne. McLean wrote it after musicians Buddy Hollie, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. Richardson, were killed in a plane crash on February 3, 1959.

What an amazing rendition. I have never heard of Home Free, but I will be looking for more of their work. Great share, Kim.
