Stage and screen legend, Christopher Plummer, has sadly passed away. Here is his obituary in the New York Times.
I’m talking about nearer the end of your life than the beginning. Now what do you think you think about then? The future? In the future I’m going to do this? Become that? What future? No. What you think is ‘How will I be regarded in the end?’”
While Plummer made his dislike for The Sound of Music well known, calling it The Sound of Mucus, I will always remember him for these two scenes:
May this legendary thespian Rest In Peace.
I thought he was so handsome in Sound of Music! C

Kim, he was quite memorable as Captain von Trapp, bringing gravitas to the anti-Nazi stance, with the affection for the kids with his singing. But, he was so much more playing heroes, adversaries, and people fraught with challenges. One of my wife’s favorite movies is “Somewhere in Time” with Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeves. Plummer played a Svengali type role to Seymour’s. Then, in “Beginners” with Ewan McGregor, Plummer won an Oscar for playing a man whose son learns the father has long been gay, while being married to the son’s mother. He even played in a RomCom called “Must love dogs” with Diane Lane as his daughter. The funniest scene is when Plummer shows up for blind date which turns out to be with his daughter. Keith

Yes. I loved him in Somewhere In Time, The Beginners, All the Money in the World, and so many other roles. The first time I saw him though was in The Sound of Music. In 1975, my parents brought my sister and I to a 10th year anniversary showing of it in a little art theater near us. I was instantly smitten, especially as my dad had sung Edelweiss to me from my earliest childhood.

Kim, what a great memory. Edelweiss added so much to the film. On my fifth birthday, my mother took me and a few kindegarten friends to see a showing of “The Sound of Music.” It was my first movie in a theater. Keith

A pro until the very end. I thoroughly enjoyed Knives Out, which came out in 2019.

He played so many wonderful roles. A truly amazing actor who will be missed. And whether he liked Sound of Music or not, he was amazing in it.

Lots of tributes to him today, and rightly so. But forget the sugary SOM. He was the Duke of Wellington, in ‘Waterloo’! What a role! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

I know Pete. He was fantastic in that. If you read my comment to Keith, it explains why SOM and that particular role has a place in my heart.❤️

He did Fraggle. We’re watching All the Money in the World, about the kidnapping of John Paul Getty. I had seen it before, but Tom hadn’t.
