Not that it will probably make any difference, but that is powerful stuff.

I did watch most of it. His lawyers were awful. He should have stuck with the first set. I heard he wasn’t happy.

They showed some of it on the news here. A defence lawyer rambling on. Dull as dishwater. I hope the proceedings liven up soon.
Best wishes, Pete.

Trump’s attorneys did not have a good first day.

Kim, well done. This is a repeat of comment from a similar post.
While sixty seven votes may prove illusive, and likely will, the one thing the MAGA base and sycophants are trying to mask is the former president is guilty of sedition and inciting an insurrection. Not just a little, but a heavy hand. One cannot specifically lie for two months about a planned and staged voter fraud tactic, denounce judges, election officials, judges, governors, secretaries of state, the US AG, et al, many of whom are Republican, invite his more zealous base to Washington, wind them up and point them at the capitol and say he had nothing to do with it. Seven people are now dead because of this enfant terrible former president’s lies about the election.
The most succinct line was uttered in a group meeting by the US Attorney General, before he was later fired (forced to leave). William Barr said “Mr. president, this election fraud stuff is bulls**t.” Keith

Watching the video and hearing and watching the responses of the mob to his rhetoric, the argument that he wasn’t responsible is incredible stupid.

Kim, I was watching conservative pundit David Brooks on PBS last night. He correctly noted that the defense never addressed the incitement leading up to January 6. These folks were there because Donald J. Trump lied to them and told them the election was stolen. He did exactly what many thought he would do after the election. Yet, the greatest disappointment is more Republicans did not tell this untruthful and corrupt former president that his claims were BS, as the attorney general did. We also should not forget Chris Krebs, the head of election security said this was the safest election in US history, and he also was forced out. Mitch McConnell thought it would all blow over, but he also is culpable for not saying what Rep. Liz Cheney said on Fox this past Sunday – Donald Trump lied to Republicans. Full stop. Keith

There are many others who have almost as much blood on their hands as Trump.

True. McConnell’s calculated comments make him at the top. He was the one who could have brought the hammer down on the illicit actions of the former president. Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley deserve to be tried for their role. Keith

Powerful speech by Rep. Laskin. I had not heard it, but it is very emotional. I hope it has some effect.

I’m afraid the outcome is already set, but the video montage and Jamie Raskin’s moving testimony is proof of why the trial still needs to proceed.

Teared up on Raskin telling of the days 5th and 6th. Laughed like crazy when trump’s lawyer said arrest trump – he probably should be arrested

Raskin’s testimony was so moving.

It makes me so angry that he probably won’t be convicted. Like there are already rumblings from the Republicans that they think it’s ridiculous, and there aren’t enough of them to get the two-thirds. I’ve love to be wrong, but I also know the historical precedence 😦

I think there may be 5-6 Republicans who may follow their conscience and do the right thing. I’m looking at: Collins, Murkowski, Romney, Cassidy, and Sasse. But if all 60 Democrats vote to convict (which I think they will), they still need 17 Republicans, which isn’t going to happen.

Exactly, and Moscow Mitch just said he was going to vote to acquit.
