Award winning activist, stage, and screen star, Olympia Dukakis, passed away today at age 89. Here is the New York Times obituary.
Most of us are not real eager to grow, myself included. We try to be happy by staying in the status quo. But if we’re not willing to be honest with ourselves about what we feel, we don’t evolve.

I always thought she improved any film she was in, and could bring dignity to a role.
Best wishes, Pete.

Kim, thanks for sharing this sad news. She was a treasure. My favorite moment of hers (are of many others) is from “Steel Magnolias” when she told Sally Field’s character to take out her frustrations of her daughter’s death and “whack Wheezer,” the character played so well by Shirley Maclaine. It was one of the funniest moments I have ever seen in a movie. Keith

Steel Magnolias was my favorite Olympia movie. She was a true actress, someone who could absolutely convince you in the role she was playing. I remember being shocked to learn she wasn’t from the south, because she convinced me she was.
