inThere are no lines. For everything is a circle, turning back on itself endlessly. This is not to make you dizzy, but to give you the chance to get it right the next time.

inOne day, our descendants will think it incredible that we paid so much attention to things like the amount of melanin in our skin or the shape of our eyes or our gender instead of the unique identities of each of us as complex human beings.

Black History Month, Kenny G, Lovely Lyrical Lines, Lyrics written by Bob Thiele & George Weiss, Sandro Torricelli, What A Wonderful World
Thanks to it being a Leap Year we have an extra day to celebrate Black History Month. Because of all the doom and gloom going on right now, I’m determined to end this month with something uplifting, and who better to do that than the incomparable Louis Armstrong, and his timeless What a Wonderful World? I’ve also included a spectacular lyric video created by Sandro Torricelli I hope you enjoy. There’s a lot of ugliness in the world that’s so easy to stay focused on, but it’s important to remember to, in the words of Whoopi Goldberg: Take a little time to enjoy the view.

inI am an expression of the divine, just like a peach is, just like a fish is. I have a right to be this way…I can’t apologize for that, nor can I change it, nor do I want to…We will never have to be other than who we are in order to be successful…We realize that we are as ourselves unlimited and our experiences valid. It is for the rest of the world to recognize this, if they choose.

Southern trees bear a strange fruit
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root
Black bodies swinging in the Southern breeze
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees
~
Pastoral scene of the gallant South
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth
Scent of magnolias sweet and fresh
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh
~
Here is a fruit for the crows to pluck
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck
For the sun to rot, for the tree to drop
Here is a strange and bitter crop.
Strange Fruit, performed by Billie Holiday
