I will personally work to defeat every single Republican Senator/Congressman who doesn’t stand up against this fraud—they will be primaried in their next election and they will lose.

It should be a message to all the Republicans who have not been willing to actually fight, the people who did nothing to stop the steal. This gathering should send a message to them: this isn’t their Republican Party anymore. This is Donald Trump’s Republican Party.

As the coming week is going to be stressful here in the US with the Georgia runoffs on Tuesday, and what promises to be quite the spectacle in Congress on Wednesday, of what should be the routine counting of Electoral votes and affirmation of Joe Biden as President, I was trying to keep things light here on By Hook Or By Book, but then earlier today, the Washington Post released audio excerpts of Mr. Trump, pleading and threatening Brad Raffensperger, Georgia’s Secretary of State to “find” 11,780 votes to overturn his defeat in that state. Call it sedition. Call it treason. To me without a doubt, it’s illegal. Take a listen for yourself.
*UPDATE*
For anyone who has the stomach and a bottle of aspirin, here’s a link to CNN who has the full transcript and audio of the hour-long phone call.
A few hours ago the Electoral College carried out the will of the people and confirmed Joseph Biden’s win. There was no straying, no “faithless electors.” They carried out their jobs the way they’re supposed to even with increased security concerns. Trump still refuses to concede, and his minions in the Republican Party are still insisting they can overturn the election, but honestly, they can’t. It’s time for Mr. Trump and his supporters to accept that there was no widespread fraud. Instead, there was something we should all be proud of. Over 155 million people voted which makes this the biggest election turnout in history. With 74,223,755 million votes, Mr. Trump received more votes than any other sitting president. President-elect Biden, with 81,283,495 million votes, had the biggest popular vote win than any previous presidential candidate. I think one thing we should all be able to agree on is that those are incredible numbers.
Shortly after the results were confirmed, President-elect Biden gave a 15 minute speech, of which I’m sharing the video of in case anyone missed it. I’d like to highlight a couple of things that stood out for me though.
The flame of democracy was lit in this nation a long time ago, and we now know—nothing, not even a pandemic or an abuse of power can extinguish that flame.
…We’re a great nation. We’re good people. We may come from different places, hold different beliefs, but we share in common a love for this country, a belief in it’s limitless possibilities. For we, the United States of America, has always set the example for the world, for a peaceful transition of power.
Here’s his speech in its entirety.
I’m not so foolish to believe that people who are refusing to accept the results of an election that was the most monitored one in history, will suddenly snap to and accept the Electoral College results either, but hope springs eternal. Meanwhile, while all this insanity has been going on, the U.S. reached another tragic milestone today. There have now been over 300,000 people who have died from the coronavirus as of today. That includes country music superstar Charley Pride, and actress Carol Sutton who died over the weekend. Why are we continuing to fight each other instead of banding together to fight this pandemic? It truly boggles the mind. I can’t even imagine what people will think decades in the future when looking back at this time.
As He Who Must Not Be Named grows more desperate to cling to his office despite court case after court case being thrown out, many times by conservative judges who were appointed by him, it’s getting increasingly dangerous for Republican state officials and others who are simply doing their job and making sure democracy proceeds the way it should. Yesterday, Georgia elections official, Gabriel Sterling (a Republican), who finally had enough, blasted the president and members of the GOP who are complicit in their silence. If you haven’t seen this it’s worth watching.

Emily Murphy who is the administrator of the General Services Administration, has at long last acknowledged Joe Biden is indeed the President-elect and has cleared the way for the formal transition process to begin. I felt at the beginning that Trump had the right to contest the election within the law. However, what his legal team, headed by Rudy Giuliani, has been resorting to in the last couple of weeks is desperate and crazy, and their shenanigans are putting this country at risk. Now Biden and Harris can get the briefings and money they need so the new administration can hit the ground running on January 20th. Now, I really am not the type of person to kick someone when their down, but I hope you’ll allow me this small bit of snarkiness.
Now let’s just all pray he doesn’t do too much irreversible damage to the White House and the rest of the world on his way out.
It’s been 8 days since the election was called for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and while You-Know-Who is still throwing everything against the wall in order to hang on to the White House, come January 20th, we will see the inauguration of a new administration. NowThis News has put together a video compilation of some of the more miserable Machiavellian miscreants who’ll be leaving with him.
While the Trump administration is contesting the election and filing lawsuits (as is their right), there is no doubt that come January 20, 2021, we will have a new President and Vice President. The United States has a rough road ahead though. The election has proven we remain deeply divided and civil discourse remains for the most part MIA. While Biden won the popular vote by more than 4 million, 70 million people voted for Trump. The distrust of politicians and the media is at an all-time high. When we can’t even agree on the simplest of measures to keep one another safe in the middle of a pandemic, there is something drastically wrong. Four years ago I was devastated when Trump won, yet I was willing to give him a chance. I prayed that once he took office he’d realize the enormity and gravity of the responsibility he was taking on and perhaps his better nature would prevail. Obviously that did not happen. As we enter a new political era and begin the difficult task of healing this nation, my fervent wish is that once they get over their shock of Trump’s loss, the majority of his supporters will give Biden and Harris a chance. Whatever else you want to say about Biden, he has a long history of working across the aisle. While there’s a lot that I’ve disagreed with him about over his long political career, I do believe that if anyone has a chance of restoring bipartisanship to Washington and mending our broken country, it’s Joe. No matter what candidate you voted for, if you truly care about our country, you should hope and pray for his success.
I don’t ordinarily highlight commercials for Whimsical Wednesday, but when you watch Oreo’s “The Fair,” I think you’ll agree it’s the perfect choice for this week.
