On last night’s SNL, guest host Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and Kate McKinnon, belted out their rendition of My Favorite Things, by Rogers and Hammerstein. All I can say is it’s perfect for 2020.
Because this beloved song lends itself so perfectly to this s**t year, here’s another sly take on it.
And finally, here’s the incomparable Julie Andrews version.
For anyone who missed this past weekend’s Saturday Night Live, British songbird Adele was the host. Although hypnotic R&B singer Gabi Wilson (H.E.R.) was the musical guest, Adele proved that she could have another career as a comedic actress if she ever gave up singing. My favorite skit of the night was this take on The Bachelor, because after five years without a new album, it reminds us of her soaring voice, as well showcases her wicked humor.
Phenomenal comedian Kate McKinnon was with Colin Jost on Saturday Night Live this past weekend breaking in a new character named Dr. Wayne Wenowdis. Toward the end of the exchange she had a minor nervous breakdown and broke character. Not only did it make an already funny skit even more humorous, her feelings are something I think we can all relate to.
After thirty-five years, Eddie Murphy made his triumphant return to Saturday Night Live last night. If you ever doubted the claims of how he saved the show when he was a cast member from 1980-1984, this should dispel them. In the first two sketches I’m sharing, he brought back two of his beloved characters, Mr. Robinson, and Gumby. And the final sketch, which probably would have been a lump of coal in anyone else’s hands, proved that Murphy can turn anything into comedic gold!
