Such a great quote, and it’s so true. I have books I read as a child that will always hold a special place in my heart. I even remember the very first book I was able to read on my own because I was so excited just to be able to read. lol

I have a long list of childhood favorites that got me through some tough times. My very first book I read on my own was Hop On Pop, by Dr. Seuss. I was so proud of myself I read it to anyone who would listen!💁🏻

Ha! I did the same thing with my first book I ever read. Mine was called Ratty-Tatty. I love when people remember the name of the first book they ever read. 😀 It’s such a great memory to have.

Aww! Ratty-Tatty! That sounds adorable! And I agree completely. Remembering the name of the very first book someone’s read is priceless.🤗

I had no idea that today was a childrens book day!! I may just have to jump online and order my kids a couple books (just because any excuse is a good excuse, when it comes to kids books!) This quote is great too!

I had completely forgotten until a couple of hours ago when I read someone else’s post. And me being a former children’s librarian! *Smacks Head*

The first book I read by myself is frowned on by some today—Little Black Sambo. Different times but I remember being so impressed by this little boy’s bravery and his being very smart.

If you ever feel like revisiting the story Lelia, there’s a beautiful retelling of it called Sam and the Tigers. It’s written by Julius Lester and is gorgeous illustrated by Jerry Pinkney.

I totally agree with that quote. I still remember first novels, The River Between by Ngugi Wa Thiong’o and The Client by John Grisham. Two of my most memorable books to date.

That’s great Diana! I loved the Client, but didn’t read it until my twenties.💁🏻

Another ‘special day’? I’m getting worn out, trying to keep up. They will have to wait for a leap year, to squeeze in one extra!
It’s a good one this time though. Kids should always read.
Best wishes, Pete.

I always remember reading at a young age. My parents used to always read me to sleep at night and I think that’s why I still love it to this day. I honestly never knew yesterday was children’s book day. Would’ve read kids books all day long! Haha!

Fantastic quote! I got to admit that the books I’ve read young still hold their own corner in my memory. I doubt I’ll forget them, but now that I’m 100% invested in them, I wish I had seen MORE at an even younger age!! One thing’s for sure, I’ll be pro-books for all the future generations, my kids, everyone!! Books = life!! 😀 Happy International Children’s Book Day!! 😀
