I lived in Pasadena, CA twenty years and never once went to Rose Parade (mister and the kidlets went every year). I’ve spent three New Year’s holidays in NYC – didn’t go near Times Square.
Know what I did do?
Spend two vacations in Paris in July during the Bastille Day celebration! Priorities, huh? π
And my French still sucks! π
Vive la France! πππ

Paris at Christmas what could be more magical? I haven’t had the good fortune to visit myself, but if I ever when the lottery, it’s in my top three places I’d immediately go visit!ππ»

Paris is truly magical, and if you eat the the Jules Verne restaurant at the Eiffel Tower, you bypass the long lines and get a private elevator to your table!

I visited France for the first time in December. It was only two layovers, but one was for 21 hours and the other was for 16 hours. We made the most of it – Paris is an amazing city!

Funny that you should pick Blaise Pascal to illustrate French republicanism. Very appropriate. Pascal lived under Louis XIV, but secretly loathed the concept of aristocracy — of some people being “born better” than others. See his diary, Les Pensees (Thoughts); a real kick in the pants.
