I really hate this day. It’s been 17 years since terrorists gave this country a brutal and lasting reminder that America is not invulnerable, yet it feels like yesterday. Every single moment of that horrific day stands out with crystal clarity. So many lives lost, and not just Americans but scores of others from across the globe. Here’s the unfortunate top 10.
1. United States ~ 2,605
2. United Kingdom ~ 67
3. Dominican Republic ~ 47
4. India ~ 41
5. South Korea ~ 28
6. Canada ~ 24
7. Japan ~ 24
8. Columbia ~ 18
9. Jamaica ~ 16
10. Philippines ~ 16
All together there were 2,977 victims including 372 foreign nationals from 61 countries. It rather boggles the mind doesn’t it? I usually try to find something inspirational to mark this day, but today I really struggled to find something that reached deep inside me. But then I stumbled across “I Heard an Owl”, written and sung by Carrie Newcomer which I think is perfect.
I also found this meaningful quote from Sandy Dahl, wife of Flight 93 pilot Jason Dahl.
If we learn nothing else from this tragedy, we learn life is short and there is no time for hate.
Words to live by my friends. Words to live by.
