Remember, it didn’t start with gas chambers. It started with politicians dividing the people with ‘us vs them.’ It started with intolerance and hate speech and when people stopped caring, became desensitized and turned a blind eye.

Sadly, I think too many people have either already forgotten or never knew the atrocities that took place during that time. When I was in my early 20’s and had just graduated college, I went to Europe. One of the stops i made was to Dachau and the Berlin Wall (it was still up at that time). Those are things I can never forget.

Recent surveys have found that a majority of respondents don’t know basic facts like how many died or that Hitler was democratically elected.

Scary thoughts, I know. Sadly, a lot of people don;t even think it happened.

As a retired teacher, I’ve found that the Holocaust is not be taught in schools the way it was a number of years ago. Sad. An entire generation is unaware. Hitler’s playbook is on display everyday in the political forum. Shameful.

As survivors pass on, I fear that what happened will be completely brushed under the rug.

Ain’t that the truth. It’s otherization, the tool of unscrupulous fascists and demagogues everywhere.

Don’t forget the burning of the books. That will start soon.
I have been watching some of the ceremonies in Poland on the news, very moving.
Best wishes, Pete.

I’m going to have to look at the ceremonies online because everything’s back to back impeachment here.

I’d rephrase that to say that the problem is that only some of us do, and we’re far too often otherized ourselves by the people who don’t.
