The C Word (or, life as we know it)

I have chosen to leave the title as WordPress’s pre-populated one, because it is nothing if not accurate!

Today, I want to go right in at the deep end and talk about pregnancy, birth and more specifically that post-partum body. The reason? My lovely sister-in-law is eight months pregnant and there is so much that I want to share with her, but won’t, for fear of a) scaring her shitless and b) becoming that well-meaning but annoying relative.

Why do I feel qualified to talk about this? I have two daughters, one 14 and one 8. The eldest was born by emergency section and the youngest by forceps. Both, in their own right, difficult, scary and challenging births. Both held their own shocks and surprises.
