Demi Lovato performing Commander In Chief at the Billboard Music Awards October 14, 2020
Demi Lovato has released what is probably the most powerful protest song in this Trump era. Commander In Chief unflinchingly takes the Trump Administration to task for its mishandling of the pandemic and the country’s problems with racism and police brutality. In response to a negative comment on her Instagram account, this is her response:
You do understand as a celebrity, I have a right to political views as well. Or did you forget that we aren’t just around to entertain people for our entire lives…that we are citizens of the same country and we are humans with opinions as well? I literally don’t care if this ruins my career…I made a piece of art that stands for something I believe in. And I’m putting it out even at the risk of losing fans.

For anyone who believes that Trump is being attacked unfairly – the facts are the facts, and they include thousands and thousands of bald-faced lies from his own mouth. There is video, they are lies pure and simple – that is his way to living his life, but it’s not the way we want our country governed.

I figured you’d be all over this anyway, Kim, but I sent it to you in one of your previous posts. I read an article yesterday where Demi Lovato said something to the effect of, “I don’t care if writing this song affects my career.” I saw that the Dixie Chicks have finally come out with some new music in the last year. I immediately thought of them because I remember the blowback they got.

Yes, did you see my reply? And I also flashed back to the Dixie Chicks. Celebrities have every right to voice their opinion no matter who they’re voting for. I firmly believe this is the case even for celebrity supporters of Trump like James Woods, Herschel Walker, Dean Cain, and Isaiah Washington, etc.

Well done to Demi for making a stand. I doubt it will affect her career at all. Bob Dylan has had a lifetime career after starting out with ‘protest’ songs.
