Australia has been battling bushfires since September, and there seems to be no end in sight. As of this morning more than 12 million acres have burned which is roughly the size of New Hampshire and Vermont combined.

You might be interested in this post by an Australian. He is critical of his government for the heavy reliance on volunteers, and chronic under-funding of emergency services.

This simply breaks my heart Kim. You have no idea how these disasters due to the climate change affect my mood. I feel so helpless with what we do to our planet and how influential politicians keep denying that there is a global warming and just …are petty!!! They are like children having tantrums for nothing of importance while our planet and animals are dying and we should do SOMETHING! I can only do what I feel right at my own level like: walking often instead of taking the car, eating less or no meat etc. But still I feel desperate honestly.

It’s especially frustrating because it’s future generations that will have to pay the highest price.

Australia coal production for the last financial year came to $278 BILLION Kim, you would think as they are adding so much to the climate crisis the least they could do is fund cleaning up their mess. Sorry, their govt sucks as much as ours.

Countries like the US, UK, and Australia aren’t going to be looked upon favorably in the history books.

Sadly, the climate change deniers will never acknowledge what’s in front of them.

Best to donate to local Australian Wildlife organisations who can deploy resources in a far more timely manner eg WIRES http://wires.org.au/donate/emergency-fund or to WildLife Victoria http://wildlifevictoria.org.au

Thank you so much for posting this and the donation links. I am glad that the world is taking notice and that our dickhead Prime Minister is incredibly terrible at his job. I saw something the other day that around 480 million animals have perished, and it absolutely breaks my heart.

I don’t know how it is in Australia , but I do know the PM is an evangelical and if they are anything like the ones over here in the US, they are hell bent on the end times and some vague rapture fantasy from the Bible.
Trump plays into that with the Iran thing and lots of climate deniers think God will take care of the climate, so not to worry.
Corporate greed is the main reason for no action on climate change, but I do fear the religious element, as well. Pence, the VP and Pompeo, our Secretary of State, are big into this rapture thing.

I don’t know much about Morrison beyond that he’s a big coal mining supporter and climate change sceptic.

WOW!!!! So sad. So far, all my “rellies” are deemed safe, which is very good. Most of them are south of the fires in the Melbourne area of Victoria, but those who are further north are safe too.
